My first impression is ILI.
Definitely an NT. He's looking at life as a game in his writings.
Some hints of LIE, some hints of LII, but that first picture is sooooo ILI. I don't think an LIE or an LII could pull off looking like that.

After some careful reflection, I present the most truthful recollection of his personality I can muster.
The closest man I could compare Max Mallory to is Andrew Aurenheimer, the founder of Encyclopædia Dramatica. Reminds me of the hero of the film A Goofy Movie. Quite possibly LII, in his fullest generality.

From the writings, he's a clear perceiving type and has conscious Ne. Thus Ne base.
Everything he writes is basically Ne with some glimpses of Si.
Since he was into tech and games and "tasks", that points to T (even though anyone can like that).
Anyway ENxP. Since you talked about comfort, I'd infer that identity seems the most plausible ITR between you two, given my previous observations.
