If you think "villains" are more compelling than "heroes" than I will safely assert that ye are royally fucked up in all the worst ways. I think you're missing that some villains are not liked FOR their causing harm.

Some heroes are written and designed so poorly by artists that they are not deep, rich, compelling characters. The occasional villain or antihero IS written with a great deal of complexity, depth, richness, and pathos, and when both those situations overlap (a one-dimensional and contrived 'hero' and a beautifully wrought character who is choosing to do wrong things right now), it's not a bad nor an unrelatable occurence that people can feel themselves drawn to the more profound and organic character.

A) I didn't take the side of comic characters who happen to be women and have diverse views, which you'd recognize if you read more on them.

B) Your fun fact isn't indicative of there BEING evil noncorporeal mythical beings. And a group of people having beliefs about non-existent mythical evil doers that some humans are scared exist and are the cause of the crappy decisions and pains in our world doesn't make the beliefs grounded in reality.
