    Default Edgar Allan Poe

I couldn't find any discussion about him so heres some food for thought
In high school I really took to some of his work and the themes in his life seem comparable to that of Yeltsin (the Russian 'celebrity' INFp). His love life was hopeless, he appeared torn from reality, his interests were so widespread that he could never follow a single course to success, he became dependent on alcohol and died relatively young and miserable.... seems like an unhealthy intuitive type INFp... I especially was drawn to how the editor of this "Complete works of Edgar Allan Poe" book described him...

    (1809-1849)
"He was a man of codes: whether the chivalric structures regarding properly gallant behaviour in relationships between men and women or the kind of cryptograph he loved to invent and solve.
"He was himself a man encoded, programmed from the start to a life of deprivation and bearing a genetic imprint that doomed him likewise to a course of perverse self-destruction, so that, at least in the eyes of his contemporaries, deprivation spelled depravity as well.
"[His work gained much more recognition in France rather than in America... his "Chaplinesque" appearance reminds] us that he was for all his tragedy something of a fool, a man who fell in love with child-women and was prone to sentimental postures ending in a prat-fall. He liked a flower in his button-hole.
"Poet, philosopher, painter, musician, he is the self-cast type of all romantic genius, with the satanic egotism of Byron and the encyclopedic lore of Coleridge.
"It is this created consciousness which marks Poe as particularly alien to the American experience, for his frantic, surely obsessive cosmopolitanism is anthithetical to the rampant nationalism of his day"

    A Dream within a Dream
    by Edgar Allen Poe

Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
    Thus much let me avow-
You are not wrong, who deem
    That my days have been a dream;
Yet, if Hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it, therefore, the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

    I stand amid the roar
    Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
    Grains of golden sand-
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep- while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
    Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
    One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?
    .................................

anyways does anyone else here like his work and what would you type him? The only reasonable options I could muster were ENFp or INFp though I lean towards the latter
