Central Rational T type (LSI or LIE).
I'm leaning LSI, since he is more passive and asking in interviews with people talking about abstract N subjects. But in this video, he has his own opinions about what to do in a street fight and isn't afraid to voice them even with a professional fighter like GSP.

@Toro That's interesting. The reason I was thinking Ne is because he seems to be all about considering different perspectives and exploring lines of thought in depth while drawing comparisons between them.
I think he has a very introverted and static/steady personality (or at least appearance) which I associate with IJ temperament. I don't see any indications for an extroverted type.
What would be an argument for LSI > ESI in your opinion? Gestures like the one below (posting that video in support of Joe Rogan) make me lean towards Fi-valuing. But then again, Ti-IJs understand relationships at some level, too, and are capable of acting in similarly ethical ways.

He starts every day with gratitude, long-term, short-term goals. I find him quite kind. It's hard for me to imagine as an introverted logical type to have all the podcasts talking with a variety of people, when most of my conversations are simply an exchange of information that I try to keep as precise and short as possible
I think it's fair to say different people of the same type can deal with/be predisposed to different lengths of conversation. If someone talks about something I'm really interested in, I can be focused on it for 4-12 hours or so, depending on the circumstances. I can see where you're coming from with IEI. Thoughtful nature, seems to aspire towards Se
I think he's IEI. He asks his guests a lot of very abstract generalized romanticized questions about the meaning of life, our place in the universe, and things like that. Meaning and purpose are themes that he brings up quite a bit. That being said I did consider Alpha introvert for him, but I don't think it works as well. As you can see with the Joe Rogan thing, he has a history of also being engaged with somewhat controversial Se valuing types and trying to "soften" their image when they come under fire.
LIE would be my next guess. I agree he does seem Fi valuing and high intuition. However, I don't see his ethics as flexible as Joe Rogan's (Who I think is SEE, but we don't need to get into that if you disagree.) The point I want to make is I just don't think Lex's ethical functions are in his ego.
I have to admit I do underestimate LIIs when it comes to physical things, there isn't too great of a reason to discount LII I suppose. It could just be my own personal biases interfering. However, I didn't explain the reason I said it was obvious that he was a central type in the original video. The reason I thought so was that the way he paints the world is a picture of struggle and fighting. He talked about his "place in history" which in my opinion is typical of Ni/Se valuing types. That may not be as convincing as I previously thought.
At this point, I reconsidered his type and I think that LSI is less likley than I thought previously. But now I am reluctant to make a determination of his type. I think his body language is rational, High T and low F functions. I think he is NT at least.
But definitely not IEI.

I think a lot of people know him through his work as a podcaster and not necessarily his original walk of life, which is as a machine learning researcher, especially for self-driving cars. https://scholar.google.com/citations...N7cAAAAJ&hl=en
I think the "softer" questions he asks are just conversational pieces for his podcasts- he is trying to ask boilerplate questions that allow the guest to give answers that are likely to spark novelty and interest in the listener (and I imagine, himself to some extent. experiencing novelty about an answer doesn't mean personal feeling about the answer is there). I think this because he didn't just immediately start asking those questions, but tried some things out and grew to understand which were the right kinds of questions to ask.
