I'm constantly looking to align the real with the ideal.I've been more oriented toward being overly idealistic by expecting the real to match the ideal. My thinking side is dominent. The result is that sometimes I can be overly impersonal or self-centered in my approach, not being understanding of others in the process and simply thinking "you should do this" or "everyone should follor this rule"..."regardless of how they feel or where they're coming from"which just isn't a good attitude to have. It is a way, though, to give oneself an artificial sense of self-justification. LSE

Love in common usage is to "like", a sympathy.
To love other human, besides to like, mb added also a compassion + a wish and activity to make that human happier, including to make yourself to feel happier as a consequence.
A compassion when in more complete degree can be described as a feeling of being that other human, to have traits of other human, to be united with other human in a common for both, as parts of one being, to have minds and lifes as joined, when mind contents (including interests, thoughts, feelings, wishes, sensations) of one is such of other human too.
Love as a feeling of having common with other people, a compassion to them, feeling of being with them as parts of more general (including as having similar aims) - exists always, in some degree to anyone.
A sympathy to something in anyone always exists too.
What is rare is strong feeling of love to someone. Including to the one in your pair.
Just love exists always. As a geting pleasure (liking) from something in the world too.
