I can crack out on books too... once I start on something I'm hooked and usually don't sleep and stuff until I'm finished. I love to read. unfortunately there's nothing left by the authors I like so I have to wait for them to write more As soon as something new comes out though I pounce on it. ahh but then the majority of books I tend to download as Ebooks off torrent sites and stuff so that figures into my computer time.

It's quite an amazing feet I know...lol Here's some reasoning behind it, let's take a look at the crazy shit that happens in life that causes some to make strange choices like not having internet at home...

When I lived in AZ and was with my g/f of 2+ years, I found out that being an online nerd every day took quite a toll on my relationship. I'd walk in from a 12 hour day of work, say hi to the g/f, and then sit in front of my computer on message boards, playing games, gambling online, etc... until I went to sleep or had another reason to do something else. Towards the end of that relationship it was brought up that I was online so much that it seemed I didn't care about her.
In my little world I hadn't done anything wrong and didn't know what she was talking about. After a few million fights we broke up and things ended when I kicked her out. (and yes, she had another place to go, i'm not a total bastard) After she left I would spend about 5 or 6 hours a day playing online poker and actually making decent money on it. Then there was an up and down time of online gambling and even going to the casino all the time just because i felt like going somewhere instead of sitting in front of my computer. About this point i figured I had some type of gambling addiction.
I found a job opening up here in Oregon with the company I worked for in AZ and thought it would be a good thing since it would be a somewhat clean slate to restart life from... now single and wanting the girl back but thought that I'd never get over it unless I just put distance between us, it made sense to move. I actually kinda felt life falling apart... I figured why not and did all I needed to get the job here where I am now. So, when I moved I decided on some crazy changes that needed to take place. First one was that i needed to have a life where I wouldn't be on the internet all the time. So, no internet at home. I have access to anything I'd ever need at work and live about 10 minutes away if a need for the internet arises. So that's what I do. I'm actually at work right now on my day off just to come in and pay some bills online.
Now I live about an hour and a half from a casino and i play poker with friends a couple nights a week. My gambling addiction is hardly what it used to be and now I'm waaaay more of a social person because I'm rarely at home anymore compared to how I was when I was in Arizona.

So, there you go, my reasoning for not having internet. haha, I guess it could be an issue of TMI but oh well... I'm bored. As joy puts it, I'll say this is an online journal entry.

i don't think it's TMI, i find your reasons very interesting

i'd dump the internet if i could, but it's currently my ONLY social outlet and the best way for me to keep in touch with my family.

i dumped the cable and tv because the tv was the number one argument between my daughter and i. it just wasn't worth the constant fighting. alas, richard likes watching something while we eat dinner, so each day we get to watch a 30min video like Simpsons (or a movie on weekends) instead of interacting as a family. yet another thing not worth fighting over...hehehe

I would dump the mobile phone if I could. I don't really like it when people call me during inappropriate times and I feel bad not answering the call 'cos it feels as if I'm ignoring them intentionally (which is true ). But I love text messages for their convenience though. The best invention ever.

Aye, word from a true master who sees the truth for what it is. *Alleluliah*

Mobile phones have been projected into larger markets for reservoirs of cash such as teenagers who feel important when in reality they are mindless followers. Very few people need mobile phones such as small business owners, stock traders, lawyers. I don't know...maybe people who actually have responsibilities.

Yeah but who cares? You can send text messages to girls with them, so they are useful of course.

They would be useful, if they didn't have to cost so much to send one message. Like, fuck we don't have to pay to send e-mail half way around the world and we have to pay a charge to send a message to your next door neighbour!

lol that and the downloadable bullshit like wallpapers, ringtones, games... bla bla bla

my ex ran up a $600 bill one month on that shit (luckily with her new boyfriend)

then don't even get started on those "text me a joke" scams... haha the best are the "get text messages from hawt chicks!" ones. you've gotta be areal winner to pay for a computer to send you a scripted text message five times a day for $1.99 a pop as if it's a real person... idiots

Yes, you just pretty much summed up how selling useless e-items has become a commodity at the moment and there's no end to those blind enough to actually buy these lackluster e-products. Though, I blame the market and the not companies. If people were smart enough to notice this then they would not bother selling these money making scams and then they will move on to other ones.

We are actually from the same solar system even. Men are from Mars women are from Venus

I used to hate mobile phones. To be honest i find mine indespensible now. Like i will be up at the shops and get a call telling me to get something else. Or if i loose someone out drinking i can call them etc

I try not to fall for all the perks of phones though. I have a K750i which is a great phone but i will keep it for quite some time. My friends are constantly upgrading theirs. They are like my new phone does GPS and It sings and it even doubles as a vibrator if i get lonley..

that's one of the things that bug me about those things. half of the shit people pay the bucks to add to their mobiles is just so they can go around show and telling it to everybody.

    Ok, market-focus study time!

Suppose the existence of a cellphone service that offered cheap, basic phones that did nothing but acted like a phone. There wouldn't even be downloadable tones for the phone, just a large selection of standard phone rings, and the vibrate function. Text messaging would be an optional inclusion. The service itself would be prepay. Rate your interest in such a service.

the only way I'd be interrested in a mobile phone would be if it was something like this...

    http://www.sparkfun.com/tutorial/Por...ble-rotary.htm

that's just cool as fuck to me

still though I wouldn't ever answer it just like my phone at home... but it would be cool to carry around.

    @Kevin

My interest is around 5 on a scale of 1 to 10 but the prepaid charges have to be dirt cheap.
