Yes that's interesting. I'd also like to see how this differs between genders and in different age groups.

Anyways I always select a close combat character. I have tried to play other characters but in the end I get bored at them. I could play a character with a pet though if the pets were really good. In the end I prefer close combat. I have never played WoW but I think Warrior or Paladin might be my choice there.

I choose depending of the accesibility and potential of the class. I choose originality and of course, inspiring roleplaying. For example, right now I'm playing with a Priest Troll, and I wanted to be somehow like a Witch Doctor. I have to select shadow talent tree (spending almost all the point that I gain in the lvl up) and make my profession alchemist.

Now, people who knows me always said that I'm paladin and mage in the concept of the game. I'm interesed with their opinions, sometimes it help me to realize things that I don't always see.

I've come to the conclusion that the better RTS (Real Time Strategy) gamers are predominantly types ... there may also be types that really excel also ... but i think thats rarer. Real Time Strategy games mostly amount to "Real Time Action".... Strategy is a misnomer here. Observation, attention to detail, accurate recall, quick response, will to win are the key.

I like typically like RTSs, FPSs, fighting games (Soul Calibre!) and [url=http://www.eveonline.com]Eve[/ur] (an MMORPG, way better than WoW); my girlfriend (ISFj) likes RPGs like the Final Fantasy series, and Crash Bandicoot.

In World of Warcraft (or any sort of RPG), I generally prefer adaptability, generalization, and flexibility of function available in primarily the classic hybrid classes (druid, shaman, paladin), and it provides a great amount of potential for solo and group play. Hybrids in solo play allow for a sizable amount of available tools and utility to get out of tight spots and in grinding situations. I do not like to solely specialize in particular roles for those times in parties when "shit hits the fan" or when one specialist class is not pulling their weight. I like to have the ability to jump in, change roles, support, organize, and fill-in-the-gaps of the party in order to keep it running and functioning smoothly (and by that I mean, it keeps me alive). I do not like playing melee classes while feeling vulnerable without healing, and I do not like playing mana-intensive classes and feeling vulnerable to melee and always worried about being out of mana (dead meat).

I'm probably the only one here who hasn't tried WoW before and I don't understand the fascination for Final Fantasy among my friends either. Maybe it's due to the fact that I'm not really a fan of computer games in the first place.

I prefer fighting games like King of Fighters and Street Fighters. All time favorites. They are more interactive and I don't have to go through so many stages to reach the end (the best thing is that it doesn't have an ending, so I can stop anytime I want). Life simulation games such as The Sims interest me as well.

I would much rather spend my time talking to a pretty girl about important matters or world news than

sitting on my ass staring at a box that lights up while I, alone, play make believe and pretend like what happens on the screen matters or has real significance.

I can only play video games to "chill out" for a little bit. I get the urge to play football video games when I watch my team, because, I know I could execute things much better.

I have not played a video game since I came back to college, so, that's almost 2 months now. Doesn't bother me at all.

I'm an INTJ and I prefer not just FPSs, but fast-paced FPSs. I love Unreal Tournament and have been playing the series from the original (UT1999). I already have UT3 preordered. I like it because the game requires rapid thinking and strategizing, teamwork, knowledge of the maps and powerups, skillful manipulation of the environments, and strategic weapon choice. Of course, this isn't always true. There are servers where nooblets spam each other with rockets all the time, but I play with some of the top UT players who play on a weekly basis and have continued to play when most other people have stopped. They are very accurate, very smart, and it takes all of the above to be successful on the servers where I play.

Other than that, I love retro gaming such as NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, and the more recent N64. Nintendo just went to crap after N64 and I never liked Sony's systems.

Also, I despise every kind of RPG, especially MMORPGs. They are a complete and utter waste of time. No real skills are every gotten. They are mindless time-consuming smudges on true gaming. Anyone who calls themself a gamer, then touts WOW as their game of choice, is instantly a pseudogamer in my eyes.

You forgot about the part where you play at night with your friends. Kind of a relaxation thing. But its not for everyone so no worries

For instance, I havn't played in a week. Tonight I went out and saw about 3 different movies, and parts of others I wanted to see by skipping around and being naughty. Good times

I'm enjoying the WoW talk though

I used to like the pet classes best. But I've lost my love for the hunter, we're just friends now. Warlock owns the most and that is my favorite. Next is a tie between druid and pally, but I only have the druid. I agree with what logos said about the hybrid classes, but for some crazy reason everytime I try to make a Shaman of any class, I get bored. I thought for sure I'd want to play a dranei one, but I started it and got to about lvl 14 and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZzzZZZZZzz I can't get past that level! and its not worth "just doing it!" on a video game. i have a priest too, i think everyone and their mom has a priest alt.

LMAO, I was recently in a room with 3 guys who had lvl 70's, and one other guy who plays too. it was insane. i didn't even want to chime in because they were talking a million miles a minute about how leet their gear is and its the best in the game and blah blah blahhhhblahhhh. it was an amazing nerd party, pretty amusing though

another time i was at this keg party, it had been going on for a few hours and more and more people came and left, and at one point 3 WoWer's got stuck in a room. I dont know how it came up, someone said something about WoW and I yelled across the room "WORLD OF WARCRAFT?! WHAT?!" then some guy in the kitchen starts yelling "DRUID! DRUUUIIIIID!" and comes out. and the discussion begins. the other half of the people in the room completely silent for obvious reasons. loved it hahahhaha. its fun being able to be a part of pretty much every group at the party.

i can't really commit to it as much as i used to. (i used to be able to play for hours and hours due to adderall, and then a year later me becoming a stoner) but now that im not a stoner...welll...i neglect my WoWage. which is a good thing i think.

I see. Yeah, this isn't a distinction between PC and console games. It's a distinction between different genres.

I myself am a strategy (Age of Empires, Civilization, C&C) man. I also like FPSs (Halo, Unreal, Medal of Honor, Battlefield and the like).

    Default Games and Type

What games are each type the best at, otherwise better than the other types at usually? What games would you expect certain types to be playing because they're masterful at them?

    Gamma NT -
    Beta NF -
    Delta NF -
    Alpha SF -
    Gamma SF -
    Beta ST -

Um this is an interesting subject, but one that would require a good deal of observation and study.

I know that Alpha NT's enjoy strategy board games (Risk, chess, feudal), RTS's, TBS's, RPG's, table top battle games, FPS's... we are sort of a game playing type. Oh and trading card games like Magic the Gathering lol. OMG and live action roleplaying fo rizzo.

Alpha SF's get drawn into those things and they like it beause they're awesome like that.

But uh... alot of types like that shit.

Really I could only think of Gamma's who are either not into gaming or the games they like are banal like sports games.

Well INTp's like Cpig enjoy FPS's and he likes RTS's and airplane simulation.

    Actually this is all BS.

All types are present in the various gaming populations.

However to which degree is the question. I find that Alpha NT's turn gaming into a spiritual outlet/profession/social environment, so they are the "true gamers"

    still BS, but w/e.

    S's enjoy strategy games...

Ti ESTps often excel at strategy and it doesn't stop with them.

Delta ST's are good strategics too.

its not whether they are or not its what kind of strategies thats more pertinent and imo more interesting

I was talking with someone who plays Warcraft III, and I agreed when he said that the Alpha NTs always think up new strategies, and the Gamma NTs just reuse the same "best" strategy over again and usually win. So there are differences in types with best games probably. Alpha NTs would probably enjoy something more creative even by strategy, so I think we're being too general here when we list types of games.

I like role playing games when they actually have a social element, I'm just ok at most things but enjoy them if I'm playing with cool people, and for some reason I tend to kick ass at war games. My warhammer record was pretty awesome. WAAAAAGH!

Damn, now I'm freaked out. I was thinking about starting a thread just like this today (although from the opposite direction that polikujm took, rather getting us to relate our own personal experiences with games and the way we play them and then saying, "hmm...interesting!") Anyway, now I'm going to be thinking about intuition and subliminal messaging for awhile...ugh.

Personally, I don't play games very much. I mean, I like them, but I kinda always feel like I should be doing something worthwhile and focused towards, you know, a goal. And I usually have plenty of projects laying around that I (should) be doing.

I don't play role-playing games either as the real world is interesting enough as it is, and I can't "role-play" for very long without getting bored and just wanting to be myself. Plus I used to play a MUD back in high school and know how time-consuming it can be. I knew kids in college who played stuff like WoW, and that's pretty much all they did. Kind of annoying when you want to be friends with them...or have a relationship... (ugh.)

I love chess personally and was in my high school chess club for a year. As a chess player, I'm like the slowest guy you will ever play, mainly because I'm overly cautious and go through multiple possibilities rather slowly (weak Ne, I guess. I remember my ENTj friend being like this too.) Funny enough, that trait by itself allowed me to win a number of games, because the faster players would get bored and lose track of what was happening (and they'd get pretty annoyed at me for it too.) Of course, the joke's on me when the game's timed as I get nervous as hell and have an impossible time concentrating when someone throws a clock into the mix (this pretty much goes for anything I do in general, well, for things where I have to think, anyway.) Personally I'm a positional player mainly who likes closed games over open ones, as it slows things down by default, adds a little variety (open games tend to all look the same), and gives me more of a sense of 'struggle', as I don't really like when things go so easy. When I was in the chess club, I was probably the only guy who went home at night and did research on how to play the game better. I pretty much always do this with everything, though, wanting (or rather, needing) to gather enough information about an endeavor beforehand and not just go into something blindly (although there are times when I don't do this and am a bit impulsive. I don't know, it's hard to explain, but whatever, Te valuing anyway.) I was always just a bit afraid of letting people know I did this, not wanting to be called 'stiff' or 'unsure' or 'know-it-all' or...something. Anyway, when I think about moves in chess, I'm kind of limited in my outlook about horizontal possibilities and rather approach them through the lens of time (Ni), and I constantly recheck my decisions again and again...and again and again and again and again and again and (wait, I'm not done yet) again and again and again and again and again (ok, now I'm done. ) That's mainly why I'm so damn slow at chess.

Another game I love is Monopoly. It gives me a hard-on (yeah, I know, money and Gammas and all those stereotypes... ). This is a completely different game for me. I don't think there's much to strategy as most of it's just luck, and it took me awhile to learn that a good way to win is just to buy everything you land on. So you wouldn't think there's much fun in it for someone like me. Well, that's if you play the game honestly and don't cheat. What I get out of it is manipulation practice and testing how far I can go in cheating (which I tend to do for other games as well, and which is why I am a bit afraid in entering the business world if I ever got the chance, because I can be ruthlessly competitive and in an area where you can really hurt people, what kind of person would I be?) In Monopoly, I'm the kind of player who "wheels-and-deals", so to speak, trying to work with people's needs and wants to convince them that they should trade me this property for that or sell or buy from me this and that, all the while hoping they don't understand the game too well. And really, how else are you to supposed to win? My cousins know me too well and have learned never to do business with me in this game, haha. Yeah, I realize that doesn't sound like typical INTp behavior, but it's fun.

I also like plenty of card games for various reasons, but I've already said enough, so...

As for the topic at hand, I agree with octopuslove too, and we need to look at both the internal aspects of the game (thinking-based, feeling-based, engagement, whether it's tactical or strategic, whether it's fast-paced or slow) and the external aspects (camaraderie, emotional atmosphere, and in general how it affects the group and the individual in a social or emotional way, when playing with multiple people, anyway.) I'm still relearning Socionics, so I don't really have anything to contribute in this direction...

I'm sure anyone could like any game, but I am more wondering what type functions give benefit to certain games, make them more superior to playing, etc. I made this thread not for you to tell me which games you play, but for if you have any idea on the effect of the information elements in games. It seems as though this thread has gotten off topic from the original question, because now were dealing in populations of players, and that wasn't my intention.

    Mmm, delicious logical structure.

    *zoink*

Single-player RPGs like Morrowind and whatnot keep me distracted for, like, three days, but I get bored of only having NPCs to interact with.

On the other hand, I love MMOs for the social element and theorycrafting.

Also, theorycrafting in general. When I'm really into a game, I'll spend equal times playing with it and playing with all the numbers and systems going on behind the scenes. WoW is great like that, since I can play with arithmetic while firing my spells off to try and squeeze more numbers out, then log off and read about new spells, more maths, etc, etc.

Also, MMOs tend to rely on grinding, which I find relaxing (much like how other people garden or go for walks to induce a deliciously mind-numbing trance).

As for other genres, I don't like fighting games and competitive shooters (since I usually lose), but anything with co-op wins. Also, I love Smash Bros, I guess because it's less about punching fireballs out of the air and more about moving and dodging and being annoyingly exploitative.

Also, racing games are great (single player). Anything that lets me experience high speeds in the safety of my chair is great. As for multiplayer racing games, though, again, I don't like losing, so I tend to avoid them.

Well, I sort of lie about not liking losing. I think it's generally fun if there's a social element built around a game, and we're all having fun interfacing with it. As soon as it becomes a competition, though, that kills it for me.

Oh yeah, and delicious rhythm and music games. Love 'em.

And please, don't make me deal with strategy or tactical games. I'm horrible at them, and really don't understand them at all.

Also, games that have a strong element of exploration. Another reason why I love WoW, since you're always moving through this large, wonderfully strange world. Similarly with Legend of Zelda and most Final Fantasy games.

Oh, and I like party-based RPGs. I enjoy the tactical element there (mixing and matching party members, playing with numbers, etc, etc). This is why FFV is my favourite Final Fantasy, closely followed by FFVI for the environments (Phantom Forest  ).

    </dump>

    EDIT

    Just read your post, polikujm.

I'd say I enjoy games because they give me an excuse to mess around with my Super-Id. In terms of Fe and Si, though, I guess I don't have any particular strengths in game terms?

Though, I remember a discussion I had with Brill over our Chinese Checkers game. I think we concluded that Si let me get a feel for the board and see moves, while Ti was better at running through procedures. I agree, since I saw Brill miss plenty of openings; while towards the end I just wound up on the defensive trying to block his moves constantly (and failing ).

Perhaps no one would like to discuss the probable correlations or the subtle reactions within gaming of information elements affecting any devision of thought pattern, but rather contribute to a convenience correlation of aspects of gameplay like "skills acquired" or "relative victories" of our forum population, and this would not be considered deviate of the original question as it poses as a source for analysis. Like Archon mentioned, this takes thorough observation and isn't a question answered by fair representation of the whole.

Whenever there are board games where you have to know other people, either facts about them or predicting how they think, I'm pretty good at those. I don't like the time factor either, if it can be compromised. I like strategy overall, so I like RISK, but my forte is the social aspect of it.

For video games, I like RPGs and RTS. RPGs have always been the core of my collection, as I like stories and feeling immersed in them, I grow attached to characters and feel enlightened by certain plots and dynamics. Now that I'm an English major, I'm a lot more scrutinizing of RPGs, because most are shit, but now I can see it from a mile away. With RTS games, I'm very defensive, I tech up as much as I can, and go for probably too much variety. I'd be reactionary, I'm typically reactionary rather than instigating anything. I can say that I have an MMO-addictive personality, but I haven't found a free one that I like, and therefore don't play them. I used to play WoW a couple years back, and really liked being part of a guild and contributing to the whole and such, but then you start to realize that you're playing with angsty guys who don't get laid and their only social outlet is on WoW, and you get irritated easily.

I used to play online reality games, like online adaptations of Survivor, Big Brother, etc. I was considered a really good player, even though it was hard for me to win. I used to play loads of games, and I'd say my average placement was around the Final 4 from an average of about 18 players. The typical reason I get eliminated before getting to the end was because of my like-ability being a threat, and people thought I would win hands-down if I made it to the finals. But that was a rather crazy stage of my life, sometimes miss it, mostly glad I'm done with it.

Contrary to stereotype, I don't enjoy games like chess, because it's too slow and takes too long to master.

I enjoy a wide variety of card games, word games (Scrabble, Upwords, Quiddler), computer games (Minesweeper, Solitaire, Free Cell, Tetris, Snood).

Back in the days of Ninetendo (am I showing my age here?) I enjoyed playing Super Mario Bros and the Legend of Zelda.

For video games, I dislike the violent shoot-em-up games but I do like the car racing ones.

I dislike games with a gazillion instructions and that take a long time to set up and are slow paced. I've only tried role playing games a couple of times and I didn't like it that much.

I enjoy a wide variety of party games (Taboo, Scattergories, Pictionary, Apples to Apples). I like them because they're very easy to learn and are pretty fast paced. They also generate a lot of laughter and the emphasis is more on having fun then who wins.

I like all kinds of board games like Monopoly, RISK, Life, Chinese Checkers, etc... but I hate chess and scrabble. Both of them require too much thinking and people always take a long time to make their moves and I get impatient. I just don't have the ability to plan ahead to play chess. I think chess might be an N or a T game?

My strategy in competitive games like RISK or Settlers of Catan is kind of funny. I usually build a reputation with my friends that I will take revenge for whoever does something bad to me. So I guess I almost try to intimidate people or at least make them think twice. If they don't wipe me out in one swoop in RISK I will come after them until they are dead. If they screw with me in Catan I do what I can to irritate them back.

For video games my favorites are probably RPGs because they usually have good stories and I like the style of play. For some reason I like the turn based ones the best because I don't like being put under time pressure to make my moves. I like MMORPGs but grinding can get boring and I hate how they make them so dependent on parties. A lot of dumb people play those games and I don't want to party with them. I do like making friends though and I like PvP the best. I like FPS like Halo, RTS, Adventure, Fighting, most kinds of video games I think.

I like card games like hearts, solitaire, and magic the gathering lol.

Party games are a hit or miss with me. I HATE apples to apples because there is never any rhyme or reason to people's choices and I am a comptetive person who likes try their hardest and it sucks when that doesn't work. I love playing scattergories with friends because we get competitive and vengeful and it is funny lol. Like if someone vetos the word my IEI friend picked and she thinks it was reasonable she will veto that persons word. We usually end up yelling and stuff and its funny.

I like sports I am just not too great at them. I like volleyball, tennis, baseball, ultimate frisbee and I don't like basketball or soccer.

I think overall I like competitive games lol. I do notice that I have a hard time going easy on people in games for too long.

Anyway, when I think about moves in chess, I'm kind of limited in my outlook about horizontal possibilities and rather approach them through the lens of time (Ni), and I constantly recheck my decisions again and again...and again and again and again and again and again and (wait, I'm not done yet) again and again and again and again and again (ok, now I'm done. ) That's mainly why I'm so damn slow at chess.
haha, that's pretty funny. There are people who just need to play a blitz game, and focus more on instincts rather than analyzing the position. Fact is, that longer games are generally "better" in terms of increasing both players apparent chess level. Even though I enjoy a good long game, it becomes very draining, which is why I tend to avoid them. My style is more of trying to force an open game, also going for quick development (Bishop's opening maybe). Though strategically I believe a closed game is the more intimidating way to play, to me open games are more enjoyable, in that it's not like "oh crap, I just stepped on a trap." I don't think there's anything scarier in a game of chess than playing someone who sets traps that you don't realize until you're down on material .

I actually play boards games with my friends quiet often, usually on Sundays.

I like card games best, as in games that revolve around cards w/o a board
Bang! Bang! | Board Game | BoardGameGeek
Dominion Dominion | Board Game | BoardGameGeek
Munchikin Impossible Munchkin Impossible | Board Game | BoardGameGeek

Those are usually the most fun, not because I'm the best at them (Though i usually get 1st or 2nd) but because in Bang! and Munchikin Impossible especially you can really jack people with intimidation and force them to help you (i.e. I'm gunna put you in jail if you shoot me, or Let me help you kill that spy or I'll take your gun away) It's a lot of fun, the people make the game in this case.

We've played Caylus about 3 or 4 times now, and I haven't lost yet. I dunno why usually i suck at this type of game.
Caylus | Board Game | BoardGameGeek
I think the reason I always win is cause every one else at the table is so obsessed with planning out everything and they need a certain square and every thing hinges on that and then when it gets taken they are screwed. Where as i just make the best possible move each turn w/ little insight into how it could affect my next move.

This is a fun game, because it's always funny to watch some one mess up. And it's very fast paced, which i like.
Galaxy Trucker | Board Game | BoardGameGeek

Of all board games I absolutely hate empire building games, I'm horrible at them. I get last every time. In a game where you start with say a castle and a person, and have 15 turns to build an empire from that castle and a person, I'll finish the game with half a castle and no person. where every one else has this huge palace with servers and shit.
In the Year of the Dragon | Board Game | BoardGameGeek

When it comes to Video Games, I've been playing them since I was little so I'm pretty good at any type of game except for Guitar Hero; My fingers are tardfest :S

When it all comes down to it, yeah i would very much rather be playing a game of Ultimate Frisbe or Foot Ball or something. But ya can't win 'em all *shrugs*

Computer games: I like 2-d beat'em up games such as Street Fighter, King of Fighters, Garou - the more technical the better. I like both the strategic aspect, and the reaction skill/pure skill part of it, not to mention the adrenaline rush that it gives you. I used to play them on Kaillera (online client), and I became quite good.

I dislike board games because they bore me. I'm already bored enough by school, that's not something I look forward to. I played Magic: The Gathering for a while, but I never bought my cards - I used my friend's cards (he sucked, and liked that I could make his cards win, at the very least). I have played bridge for a while, I love executing calculations in my head, but I have some trouble with the communication aspect of the game.

Sports: I like many different types of sport, but I cannot find something specific that they have in common. Those I'm best at are soccer, basketball, cycling and dancing. I suck at pool.

Got some trouble playing competitive games with friends. Many of my friends get angry when they lose, and I don't love that. Completely fine with playing competitive games with strangers, though.

I like Bang but unfortunately it doesn't seem like a lot of my other friends do. I also try to use intimidation to get people to do what you want lol. I feel a little bad doing it but it's also really entertaining. Sadly it backfires sometimes.

Odd. I don't really get competitive with strangers unless they provoke me by taunting me or something. I can only seem to get competitive (in a fun way) with friends. I hate sore losers, though, they ruin the fun.

Well, maybe it's because when I become competitive (quite rarely) I tend to become quite cuttroath. So I know that could damage my relationship with my friend.

Not sure how type-related this all is, but for me:

Chess: can't get into it. I started to try when I was dating a girl with a chess-prodigy son, but he finally admitted to me that most people have their strategy chosen before they even sit down to play, including the first several moves in specific, and that just turned me off. I understand that the game is so complicated that this is a perfectly valid way to approach a game that has so many permutations ... but it just seems about the same level as choosing your birthdate to play the lottery, or never hitting when you're over 14 on blackjack.

Video games: I used to love 'em, all types. But I have weird, triple-jointed thumbs and I have no stamina to play them any more. But I can tell you that one of my all-time favorite games was Galaga, and that's because after the game over screen, it would tell you your shot-to-hit ratio. I would try to get that as good as possible, instead of a high score. I was usually in the high 60s, but my best was 86.1% (and I had reached past the 10th screen, too). I would watch others play, and their ratio was usually in the 20s and 30s. Mega ego boost, there! My SO has a PS3 and likes to play adventure games, so I'll watch him play - the games are so cinematic now that it's really quite entertaining (until I start back-seat gaming and have to banish myself to reading a book). He's playing the evil side of Infamous right now, having already beat the game on the Hero side, and we both giggle ridiculously when he goes on civilian-killing-sprees. Uncharted and The Force Unleashed were also really fun games to watch.

Card games: I don't like bluffing games like poker or bullshit. I don't like games of pure chance like war. A friend and I used to play rummy in restaurants while waiting for our food to come out; that was pretty fun. I have a card game called SET which I love especially because you can play it alone or with any number of people - and I'd recommend it to anyone.

Board games: I renamed Monopoly Monotony, if that's any indication. Most board games bore me silly. I do, however, kick ass at Settlers of Catan, Carcassone, St. Petersburg and Puerto Rico. If ever there's a meetup and any of you have those games, all I can say is: "I will kick your ass." When I say that, I don't mean that I think I can beat anyone; I mean that I would have fun playing against you and maybe my challenge will motivate you.

Sports: I prefer to play, not win. I have actually annoyed people playing chaos-pong instead of formal table tennis. Same for racquetball: it's still moving; hit it!!!! I totally dig tossing frisbees back & forth; not so much the rulesbound ultimate, though. And I'm glad my SO got me into footbag (hackeysack); it reinforces some people's impression that I'm a fucking hippie, but so be it. Again, if there's ever a meetup and anyone would like to play ping-pong or racquetball: "I will kick your ass" (see above paragraph).

Role-playing games: I like to read the books to get the cosmology, but I just can't roleplay. Many of my friends through the years have been hardcore roleplayers, so I've really tried, but I'm just always me. If I try to make a character, it's exactly like me. If I try to throw things in that are obviously not me, I have no idea how to play the character. So, for me, what's the point? My friends have learned to accept this defect.

Loves classic game systems and 2-D games like Mike Tyson's Punch Out and Super Mario World and those starfighter games and Ms. PacMan.

Hates card games because he gets really sensitive about losing, like personally offended or something. Not into board games either (I'm guessing for the same reason as why he doesn't want to play/like cards.

Hates role playing games (I assume because he sees them as dorky and doesn't wanna be seen as dorky, but also because he sees little practical application). Though, he did used to make his own comics a lot and take a character from, say, his favorite NES game and make a comic book based on this character and create a whole world for this one character, hehe. I see the two things as similar...

Doesn't like watching sports games but does like to play basketball, though he admits freely (just did today on the phone to someone) that he totally lacks the natural physical-sporting instincts of other players, though he has an advantage because he's tall and can move well.
Nearly 100 % accurate in my experience with an LII friend. My friend tends to like games like Minesweeper and the many variations of Rubik's cubes, I guess things that he can master by himself. He is ridiculously quick at both of them, and can solve the 3x3x3 rubik's cube in under a minute 100% of the time. He also does the 4x4x4 and 5x5x5, and can solve either of those in only a few minutes, and he will sometimes do special things, like write someone's name into the Rubik's cube (letters on each side) and then leave it somewhere where they will notice. The only board game I think he really likes is Settlers of Catan, and I think that's because it's always fun, whether you win or lose. He possesses a fair amount of natural athleticism, but never performs at the level of which he is capable. When it comes down to it, he just doesn’t pull the trigger. So really, I echo everything you just said, plus my paragraph.

My LIE friend is really competitive, and paradoxically dislikes playing really competitive games with friends. I guess he just takes it too seriously. With our friends, he prefers playing fun lighthearted games like Hearts or Loaded Questions. He also likes Sudoku and Boggle. He will play Halo, and especially likes teaming up with friends to defeat others online. He also likes Smash Bros. He enjoys sports of practically every kind, he’ll go out and play Ultimate Frisbee, football, basketball, racquetball, basically all sports.

My IEE friend enjoys role playing games of every type. He plays various pc rpgs, he plays dungeons and dragons, and Dagorhir ( kind of a live action RPG). He also likes some action video games, and some FPS. Thinking about it, he has a wide array of games he likes, very broad taste. As for sports, he seems to like soccer, and little else.

And for myself, I prefer games that leave little up to chance. My favorite board game, is the best board game, Chess! Chess is a game of 100% skill, you win or lose solely upon whether or not you outplayed your opponent, and I like that. My top 3 favorite players are Morphy, Capablanca, and Tal, and my playing style kind of reflects that. I prefer fast developing open games; I rarely play closed games. If my opponent is playing a closed opening system, I’m usually willing to do what it takes to open it up, even if that involves saccing a pawn or two. For video games, I prefer FPS and fighting games like Tekken. Basically games that are mostly skill based and fast paced. As for RPGs, I’m not a big roleplayer, although I enjoy RPG mechanics. I like learning the system and figuring out the best way to do something, so I can be 100% efficient when I play it. I played Dagorhir with the aforementioned IEE for about a year, and I could never really get into it. Most of the people were there for the atmosphere, I was just there to beat the crap out of people with a giant padded stick, or as they would say a “stick jock.” I ended up quitting because most of the people that play make me mad. My favorite sports, to watch and to play, tend to be 1v1, and not luck based. I enjoy wrestling, boxing, and mixed martial arts, things where a winner is generally conclusive. For team sports, I’ll enjoy playing Ultimate Frisbee or football, although they’re of lesser substance to me than the first three.

I love fantasy-adventure games. Platform adventures (like Zelda), strategy adventures (Monkey Island), RPGs (Final Fantasy). Of course the experience gets intensified by a good soundtrack, great graphics and scenery, a plot and characters. Then again I also love reading these kinds of books from time to time.

I'm actually pretty bad at video games overall. I have a hard time paying attention to the screen in front of me because I phase out. Even though it's "that simple." Perhaps I am just imagining the game physically moving along how it should. I must one of those lazy non-sensor types. Talk about your internal information elements...

Video Games: I'm not big on adventure games because of all the power playing that the game seems geared for. If any planning is involved, I tend to lose interest quickly. I like short games that can be played quickly, according to my mood. Then I can choose to play a different one, the same one, or stop playing, all according to how I feel at that moment. So I wind up with a number of puzzle type games. I also like story based games like Ace Attorney. Things that don't require a lot of button pressing.

Role Playing Games: I used to play tabletop RPGs with my brother and mom. Either of them would be the DM. Unfortunately, my characters would eventually turn into the same person. Like I'd try to play a carefree pixie, but she'd always wind up taking on a more serious role which didn't fit being a pixie so well. Usually every character wound up being Neutral Good (not lawful, and while I'd try to play chaotic, I'd always wind up "good"). I miss playing tabletop RPGs but noone here can DM. I tried, for my daughter and her friends, but I can't last long at it.

Board Games: I like Settlers of Catan, but not that Carcasone one (misspelled, sorry). As a child I used to play Risk with my father and his friends. So it carries pleasant emotions with it, but I have difficulty concentrating on the game for an extended period of time. I have a computer version of something like it, though, called Lux, which gives different layouts including a bathroom germ layout (where your army are germs and you're trying to take over the bathroom), as well as a random island one where each time you play it's a different set up. You can also play with other people or the computer, and can set the level of the computer.

I also like labyrinth style board games, where you're trying to find a path through a maze. And I've got some fun detective type games where like one person knows the story behind the story, and the other players ask questions and try to figure out the story behind the story based on "yes, no" type answers. Sorta like 20 questions but you're goal is to build up a story.

We've got some games like HeroQuest and ArchumHorror. Those are too long for me to play regularly, to Richard's dismay.

Card Games: I have some card games that also are designed to create wacky stories, where each person lays down a card that has an element on it (person, place, thing, etc) or an optional story line ('he walked down the street in the middle of the night') that they use to add to the story we're all creating.

Other card games I like are Duo (which is kinda like Uno but you have to match 2 parts of the cards..elements are color, number, symbol), SkipBo cuz it's easy and doesn't require much thought, so can spend time chitchatting or if I'm in a zombie-type state I can play without much thought. We also pick up a number of cutesy games like ones where you're collecting spell components to make a spell to cast onto someone else, or trying to wake up sleeping queens, or you're a knight who's trying to win a tournament. We've even recently picked up the Munchkin's game (western version), but that one we don't play as often because of the sheer number of things we have to keep in mind as we learn how to play it. (Over time it'll get easier, but for now, as a learner, it requires more concentration/brain power than I'm usually capable of at this time.)

Verbal Games: One of my favorites is one we got from one of manta's improv classes, "Fortunately, Unfortunately", which is more fun with an odd number of people playing, rather than even number. In this game a person starts the story with a simple scenario/action. Then the next person says "Forunately, [insert good thing]", then the next person says "Unfortunately, [insert bad thing]. We've created really drawn out scenarios like one of my daughter having a birthday party but losing her hat in the wind and then getting caught behind an ambulance as it drags her along and then being in the hospital to get healed up but the dr's are all too busy and only the janitor can help her, etc etc.

Car Games: We've got a couple of ....ugh, I can't think of the term now..but where you're given a list of things to find or get and the first person or team to get them all wins. We've got some travel versions of those, for finding items as you're on the road.

Oh, I forgot to add that Clicker Game, where you try to 'train' someone into doing something you want them to do (such as touch an object, move an object from one place to another, make a certain sound, etc). This one really keeps ya on your toes, both as the trainer as well as the one being trained. It makes everyone laugh as well. Sorta like those Pictionary and Charades games, but without words/pictures, heh.

Oh, and the Logic Games: I used to play chess with my dad (in the good days), and I was invited to join the middle school chess team, but we didn't have the money for the dues. I used to play chess at a dance club in CA, there was a guy who played chess a lot and that was how I got to know him....playing for dances, lol. I'm not that good, I don't plan my moves beyond a next step or two. But if not taken too seriously, it's ok. Noone in this house plays it though. Other logic games we have are manipulative in nature, meaning that you move things around as you try to figure out how to get a car out of a traffic jam or a peg into a certain hole, or a set of colored dots in the proper order, or a jeep out of a savannah of animals, or how to create an image using a specific set of shapes, etc. It's an easy way to build some simple logic skills.

My Favs, though, has to be the Fortunately/Unfortunately game, the detective game, and other story based games.

I think it's funny how a few people went into extreme detail about this but don't have a type listed... lol. Making their response useless.

For me I like FPS games, puzzle games, and smash bros. Super Smash Bros Brawl is definitely my favorite game, I love playing against other people (I'm the best in my county). I use a lot of the characters, but they have to be difficult to master and effective (I use Ness, Lucas, King Dedede, and Luigi. I sometimes use Marth and Wolf as well). As for FPS games I'm really into the Call of Duty games. And I like random puzzle games like columns Columns - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and random internet games that stimulate me mentally and make me think.

Since I wrote a long post and didn't include my sigline, I'm assuming I'm one of these people you're referring to.

Basically, after 2800 posts and 3 years, most people who even bother to read a post of mine already know that I list my type as NeFi.
