In some sense for the title - yes, partly. A destruction to replace an older is a part of life.
When people buy presents and do celebrations they give a prey to new year spirit. They support so hopes their life will be good there. New year spirit is an "opposing" until its time comes. Then happens birth of new year and its spirit's nature is changed.
Good/bad, pleasure/suffering, destruction/creation - are sides of God's will.
One of these sides was associated with Satan personage in Abrahamic religions views.

Christmas replaced the old non-religious winter solstice celebration of people. Even the bright lighted tree is a remaining symbol from that time.
