Outwardly, one will look more dreamy/loving/romantic and the other will look more logical and hard-assed. ILI is logical type so it won't be as openly big-hearted or "fluffy" (for lack of a better word)

I suppose they can be confused because often an ILI can be really nice actually despite being a soulless logical type. And IEI have plenty of bouts where we are kinda in an overly intellectual contemplative mood as opposed to just a dreamy/emotional/magical one. I have moments where I am very two dimensional Ti-ish and "scientific" , almost LII-like. And both can be critical as all hell. ILIs will logically explain things a lot more than IEI though. Like more real mechanical stuff not just the mechanics of psychology. ILIs are 'straighter' than way or whatever lol. A female ILI/male IEI probably would get confused more than a male ILI vs a female IEI.
