ISTJ man and ISFP wife seems very possible to me.

By the way by "advice" they actually mean "control", thats' why they expect (=want) people to follow it.

At first he comes across as very welcoming, but he is bossy, pushy, rude and manipulative. He'll be really nice so long as you do everything he wants and his way, and on his timetable.

Actually this is already a clue to his type, that is, how you perceive him. You seem to resent Se and Fe, as well as rationality or perhaps the "can't wait" trait of ISXjs.

I agree that ISTj sounds overall most like him, but the story about writing a suicide letter does not sound typical ISTj or type-related. It depends - did he write it because he was feeling depressed, was he being a drama queen or was it a cynical ploy?

I think he was being a drama queen, but he's likely depressed to at least some extent. His wife was very ill recently and I know he had some anxiety and depression issues when she was so sick.

Although, from what she said, it didn't sound like he was particularly serious about killing himself.
