I recycle everything that can be recycled. Plastic, cardboard, metal, computers, batteries, paper. Everything. Wood goes into the compost bin if it doesn't have nails or glue and hasn't been painted. Metal shavings from machining operations go to the scrap yard, along with nails and screws.

Old clothes in wearable condition go to the Salvation Army, as do toys and useable appliances and garden equipment and old tools.

I also compost vegetable food if it hasn't been processed to the point of having too much salt in it. Boiled plants are fine.

I don't do this to feel better, exactly. I do it because it is more efficient in the big scheme of things to recycle and reuse than it is to recreate.
