I've encountered this before. A visiting professor who was a graduate of my school but not a professor there was helping everyone who took a German class find where in Germany they should go to live for months to a year if they wanted to study abroad. I was the only one who was told to live in the northern half rather than southern. Everyone else who studied abroad came back in lederhosen and dirndls even though I wasn't very interested. That's when I really started feeling alienated. Americans.

One of the specific things he mentioned was everyone in southern Germany as well as Austria liked arriving at their classes 30 minutes late. I still think that's ridiculous.
