The army's top brass stood up to Trump during the George Floyd protests — he won't forget that.
If he fails to appoint more loyal generals, an ominous alternative is the privatization of the military, a proposal that's already popular in some sectors of the right wing. Donald Trump has already been approached by private contractors with suggestions to privatize large-scale military operations. [link]
I sincerely hope that there are constitutional roadblocks to prevent this sort of thing from happening.
