Elizabeth "Lee" Miller (Model, War Photographer)
[x] [x] [x] [Pictures]
Elizabeth ‘Lee’ Miller, Lady Penrose (23 April 1907 – 21 July 1977) was an American photographer. Born in Poughkeepsie, New York in 1907, she was a successful fashion model in New York City in the 1920s before going to Paris where she became an established fashion and fine art photographer. During the Second World War, she became an acclaimed war correspondent for Vogue magazine covering events such as the London Blitz, the liberation of Paris, and the concentration camps at Buchenwald and Dachau. Miller became one of the first accredited female war correspondents of World War II. Her war photos combine tragedy, beauty, irony, a wicked humor and a sense of mystery. The idea of surrealist war correspondent may seem contradictory, but in fact Lee Miller was at her best in the middle of this war and chaos. Her photo of a duck on a battlefield, her pictures of Dachau, and David Scherman’s portrait of her nude in Hit.lerss bathtub during a wild party at Hit.lers former house, her combat boots and army uniform beside her, rank as unique works both as war documentary and as art.Her photographs shocked people out of their comfort zone, said Mark Haworth-Booth.

Emotionally, I need to be completely absorbed in some work or in a man I love.

Along with metafiction, sexual abuse by Catholic priests, transsexuality and drug use are also important themes and devices in the plot, which led the MPAA to give the film an NC-17 rating. The film was released on 19 March 2004 in Spain and 10 September 2004 in Mexico. It was also screened at many international film festivals such as Cannes, New York, Moscow and Toronto before its US release on November 19, 2004.
The film received excellent reviews, and was seen as a return to Almodovar's dark stage, placing it alongside films such as Matador(1986) and Law of Desire (1987).

***I found no other trailer in Engl... the "activism" is not that overt...
The film is more about "sexual transgressions" hidden in So institutions.
Filled with iconic brands, sex appeal, and chocolate, James Rawson's paintings are kick ass. Originally from and still residing in Norfolk, England, James rejects the grey and somewhat dreary landscape of Norfolk by embracing pop art and pumping vibrant colors into his works. James Rawson's artwork blurs the boundaries between collage and painting, and always packs a Pop Art-inflected, in-your-face, pastiche punch.
These paintings are an homage to popular culture. James portrays how modern media blatantly uses sex to sell everything with his fantastically graphic images depicting our modern society and how we are addicted to the cheap thrills of fast food and T.V.

prolly a bit too dark and unsettling for sx/so, but I can't place this dude in any other stack ..partly coz of the goal
Chongqing based artist Tian Taiquan portrays his childhood memories during China’s cultural revolution with photography and photo-manipulation. The immediate pain he recollects motivates him to raise awareness by reconstructing his own personal memorial of social reality and cultural history.

^^^ the previous example is kinda too simplistic for my taste.
BUT yeah, Sx/so book cover (dude is some Fi creative type, prolly SEE by the way he stresses the visual>metaphoric aspects in everything he does)

Tanned Skin
It's the magic of your body or the perfum of your breath
It's the fire of your blaze that retains me as a prisioner
It's the sweet poison of your enchantement or the flame, that goes burning me
The honey of your tenderness is the reason of my insanity
I'm nothing without the light of your eyes,...
..,without the echoes of your laughter which sneak through my window.
You are the owner of the warmness in my pillow,...
...of my nostalgic nights,...
... of my dreams and hopes
You are the tanned skin,...
...tunes of passion and the sand
You are the tanned skin,...
... a night under the stars ('s light)
You are the tanned skin,...
... beach, sun and palm trees
You are the tanned skin,...
...the dream in my spring
Your kisses are the sweet fruit that inebriates me...
...that carries my glooms away, and that, in the end, gives me the calmness in return
I'm prisioner of your love at the dawn,...
..., of your kisses and caresses, that rest deep in my soul
Tanned skin, you are cumbia, the sun and the sand
Tanned skin, my delirium, my condemnation
It's the magic of your body or the perfum of your breath
It's the fire of your blaze that retains me as a prisioner
Ay caramba!
You are the tanned skin,
Because I'm happy only by your side
You are the tanned skin,
I have so many things to give you
You are the tanned skin,
You consume my being with your blaze
You are the tanned skin,
You retain me as a prisioner

i wanted to overthrow the government but all i brought down was somebody's wife
BY CHARLES BUKOWSKI
30 dogs, 20 men on 20 horses and one fox
and look here, they write,
you are a dupe for the state, the church,
you are in the ego-dream,
read your history, study the monetary system,
note that the racial war is 23,000 years old.
well, I remember 20 years ago, sitting with an old Jewish tailor,
his nose in the lamplight like a cannon sighted on the enemy; and
there was an Italian pharmacist who lived in an expensive apartment
in the best part of town; we plotted to overthrow
a tottering dynasty, the tailor sewing buttons on a vest,
the Italian poking his cigar in my eye, lighting me up,
a tottering dynasty myself, always drunk as possible,
well-read, starving, depressed, but actually
a good young piece of ass would have solved all my rancor,
but I didn’t know this; I listened to my Italian and my Jew
and I went out down dark alleys smoking borrowed cigarettes
and watching the backs of houses come down in flames,
but somewhere we missed: we were not men enough,
large or small enough,
or we only wanted to talk or we were bored, so the anarchy
fell through,
and the Jew died and the Italian grew angry because I stayed
with his
wife when he went down to the pharmacy; he did not care to have
his personal government overthrown, and she overthrew easy, and
I had some guilt: the children were asleep in the other bedroom
but later I won $200 in a crap game and took a bus to New Orleans
and I stood on the corner listening to the music coming from bars
and then I went inside to the bars,
and I sat there thinking about the dead Jew,
how all he did was sew on buttons and talk,
and how he gave way although he was stronger than any of us
he gave way because his bladder would not go on,
and maybe that saved Wall Street and Manhattan
and the Church and Central Park West and Rome and the
Left Bank, but the pharmacist’s wife, she was nice,
she was tired of bombs under the pillow and hissing the Pope,
and she had a very nice figure, very good legs,
but I guess she felt as I: that the weakness was not Government
but Man, one at a time, that men were never as strong as
their ideas
and that ideas were governments turned into men;
and so it began on a couch with a spilled martini
and it ended in the bedroom: desire, revolution,
nonsense ended, and the shades rattled in the wind,
rattled like sabers, cracked like cannon,
and 30 dogs, 20 men on 20 horses chased one fox
across the fields under the sun,
and I got out of bed and yawned and scratched my belly
and knew that soon very soon I would have to get
very drunk again.

How do you all feel about music festivals .. are they really an sx/so thing? I believe so. Sx/so + so/sx.. But I guess different stackings would approach festivals differently, which I find interesting. For me, as an sx/so.. I'm all about going up into the front of crowd, experiencing the MOST intensity possible.. I've noticed sp first friends or so first friends take a way more laid back, chilled out approach and enjoy the music from a distance.. which is nice, but it sucks when you don't match in your style of festival going. I started not caring anymore though, I just go off on my own and meet people later.
I also had an interesting conversation with my likely so/sp LSI friend and she discussed how she really needs a group of friends to dance with, to be silly with and only then can she MOST enjoy a concert, because she's feeding off of energy from people she's comfortable with. She told me how her and another LSI guy realized how much I feed off the crowd of people I don't even know, and I'm very okay with being in my own world and dancing -- like a little too much energy for them.

I am not sure how I feel about them now but they used to be a huge part of my life. I never liked to be in the midst of the crowd. It was suffocating. I was either up front dancing (in my own world) or backstage. I also danced onstage a few times when asked by the band. Drugs and alcohol were involved so I don't how I would have been without those influences. I still get invited to shows/concerts whenever a friend's band is in town but I have opted to stay home these days, since I am distancing myself from some of my questionable choices when I am around certain people.
Edit: I only dated musicians during that time but now I prefer a nerd or a construction worker.

"Here's to the crazy ones.
The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers.
The round pegs in the square holes.
The ones who see things differently.
They're not fond of rules.
And they have no respect for the status quo.
You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them,
disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them.
About the only thing you can't do is ignore them.
Because they change things.
They invent. They imagine.
They heal. They explore. They create. They inspire.
They push the human race forward.
Maybe they have to be crazy.
How else can you stare at an empty canvas and see a work of art?
Or sit in silence and hear a song that’s never been written?
Or gaze at a red planet and see a laboratory on wheels?
While some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.
Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world,
are the ones who do..."

I relate to this song - lyrics - SO much. Incredible. Sx moving to so!!!
I go to loud places
To search for someone
To be quiet with
Who will take me home
You go to loud places
To find someone who
Will take you higher than
I took you
Didn't I take you to higher places you can't reach without me?
(I have never reached such heights) Reach without me
(I feel music in your eyes
I have never reached such heights)
I go to those places
Where we used to go
They seem so quiet now
I'm here, all alone
You go to new places
With I don't know who
And I don't know how
To follow you
Higher
I take you higher and I’ll take you
Didn’t I take you higher?
I take you higher
I take you higher and I take you
Didn’t I take you higher?
I take you
Didn't I take you to higher places you can't reach without me?
(I have never reached such heights) Reach without me
(I feel music in your eyes
I have never reached such heights)
I feel music in your eyes
I have never reached such heights
I feel music in your eyes
I have never reached such heights
You're in ecstasy without me
When you come down
I won't be around
