Fucking hell! England need Italy to win this Costa Rica game...that Italian keeper is a Buffoon!
It's over SubT. We'll lose to Costa Rica anyway.
it would have been justice for Italy to go through (at least compared to Uruguay):
the winning goal was scored by a player who should have been sent off (and hence banned) against England...
and Suarez, the perennial cheat and nasty player should have been sent off for biting Chiellini....what on earth was he thinking?
He'll surely (hopefully) will be banned for the next few games at least although it'll be a little sad I guess that an otherwise talented player is missing from the WC.
ugh, that was awful. Just an awful performance from Italy. Especially the forwards. A deserved exit.
But yeah, Suarez is completely crazy. I also didn't fully get the red card for Marchisio, even though having him on the pitch wouldn't have changed much.
Obsequium amicos, veritas odium parit
Balotelli should probably have been sent off as well...

You seek a great fortune, you three who are now in chains. You will find a fortune, though it will not be the one you seek.
But first you must travel a long and difficult road, a road fraught with peril.
You shall see things, wonderful to tell. You shall see a... cow... on the roof of a cotton house. And, oh, so many startlements.
I cannot tell you how long this road shall be, but fear not the ob-stacles in your path, for fate has vouchsafed your reward.
Though the road may wind, yea, your hearts grow weary, still shall ye follow them, even unto your salvation.

@Reficulris. What chance do you think the Flying Dutchmen have of winning this world cup?
Well, i've been optimistic even before the championship started; everyone in holland was like "meh, we're probably going to lose again blablalba" and i'm like "nooo we're going to WIN muhahaha". Thing is, i'm unburdened by interest in soccer and or knowledge of the game, so i'll always be optimistic .
With the way the championship is going it'll be 2 obscure countries in the finales
In England, everyone was pessimistic until the week before the tournament. I remained pessimistic throughout and didn't worry. I was super happy when England went out because I could finally just enjoy it!
Everyone in the media here was expecting Holland not to progress.
Which countries do you think will contest the final?
rip fatties this afternoon the Third Reich will get its revenge

Suarez has been banned for 4 months, which seems about right at first...
it will mean he'll miss the rest of the World Cup plus Liverpool's first 9 games...
considering he got 7 and 10 match bans for the first and second times he bit someone (at least, the times he was caught...), that doesn't really seem quite sufficient considering the seriousness of what he did
there are people saying that what he did is no worse than a headbutt which is far more common an occurrence...I think the real world, there is probably little to distinguish the two...but it really depends on the severity. Either action is a very deliberate hugely negative action against someone (if his mother had been insulted I'd probably understand a little though (i.e. as with Zidane, but Zidane was class)
...can't think what the point is in also fining him the pointless sum of 100,000 Swiss francs when that is perhaps a third of a week's wage for him. He should get at least a four month fine in line with the ban.
so close
I am getting SLI vibes from Brazil's manager Luiz Felipe Scolari.
DRAMA! Penalty!!!!
in honour of that V2 Sneijder rocket
the Netherlands now have a 14% chance of winning the WC according to fivethirtyeight: http://fivethirtyeight.com/interactives/world-cup/
i thought their chances would fall after that dreadful performance in the first 80 minutes of the match.

Hi! How are you? I have gained this year around 8 kilos, most of them are muscle mass.
The Spanish national team was crushed by Holland and Chile. We have good players, but the coach decided to rely on his old friends instead of giving a chance to rising stars. As a result, Spain has missed an opportunity to make a good tournament. Even if he failed to pick the best available players, he still had Villa and Torres: instead, he just focused on Costa, who is an overrated player IMO.
The strongest teams are, in my opinion, France, Colombia and Holland. Brazil are the hosts and this is a hell of an advantage. Besides, I will support Germany and the United States, as I speak English and some German. I love Belgian beers, so I should support Belgium as well.
A prediction: Germany will win the 2014 FIFA World Cup by defeating Argentina in the final, Brazil will get the bronze medal over Holland.

actually I'll still be supporting Brazil and the Netherlands mostly, enjoying Germany play and pretending not to be jealous by the slim victories of the Argentinians. (I probably would moderately support the US over Belgium, partly because they are underdogs...although I support Brazil partly because they are overdogs...although really, it's because they are the home nation and arguably the second best home of football)
