The decisive thing is not the reality of the object, but the reality of the subjective factor, i.e. the primordial images, which in their totality represent a psychic mirror-world. It is a mirror, however, with the peculiar capacity of representing the present contents of consciousness not in their known and customary form but in a certain sense sub specie aeternitatis, somewhat as a million-year old consciousness might see them.

    Default GREATER

    Movie now on Netflix: "Greater".

This movie is awesome. We LOVED it. It is a sports-underdog movie, along the lines of "Rudy" and "Hoosiers". If you loved those, you will love this. Like both of those, besides the great story, you get a real strong sense of place. I love getting a sense of place from a movie.

This story is uplifting. It is mostly all about the sports story, but the first scene is about the big brother being very bitter about the premature death of the star of this show. Then they tell the amazing story of the younger brother, which is the bulk of the movie. Then they go back to the funeral/bitterness at the end of the movie.

    I think you can't not-like this movie. : ) Here is the trailer [2 min. 50 sec.]:

"A man with a definite belief always appears bizarre, because he does not change with the world; he has climbed into a fixed star, and the earth whizzes below him like a zoetrope."
    ........ G. ........... K. ............... C ........ H ........ E ...... S ........ T ...... E ........ R ........ T ........ O ........ N ........

"Having a clear faith, based on the creed of the Church, is often labeled today as fundamentalism... Whereas relativism, which is letting oneself be tossed and swept along
by every wind of teaching, looks like the only
    attitude acceptable to today's standards."
    - Pope Benedict the XVI, "The Dictatorship of Relativism"

    Default Hillbilly Elegy

Hillbilly Elegy. Ron Howard's new film, true story, based on the NY Times bestseller memoir. The book is supposed to be even better, which I did not read, but I sure won't be forgetting this movie. An all-star cast with an almost unrecognizable Glenn Close and Amy Adams. As I just said above, I just LOVE a movie that gives you a sense of place and this SURE does. More than one place, too. What it's like in Appalachia America, and the Hillbilly Highway to opportunity (Ohio). It so too-real that Hollywood would like it canceled. You will know and love this family and also there are some scenes you won't ever forget. Just saying it includes a drunk in case that is a trigger for you, but that is reality-life for many. Close's "bike parking" line had us in stitches.

Movie now on Netflix. Movie Trailer, 2 min., 26 sec.:

"A man with a definite belief always appears bizarre, because he does not change with the world; he has climbed into a fixed star, and the earth whizzes below him like a zoetrope."
    ........ G. ........... K. ............... C ........ H ........ E ...... S ........ T ...... E ........ R ........ T ........ O ........ N ........

Default This can happen when you are extremely in charge..

...of communicating who God is, and you do it extremely wrong:

Just watch the 40 seconds starting at 6.00 min. (unless you are interested in the long theology lecture that the rest of the video is). I love the slap-sound the tapestry makes when it hits him in the face:

Dat feeling back in 1998 when exiting the prison ship intro and witnessing the original (back then awesome) graphics of this alien planet with the epic background music.

I tease my children with this video. Their stepmom has video of her giving birth to her two kids and I don't have a video. I showed them this and said "See, you were both c-section, and it was a lot like this"

I used to got to the San Francisco zoo all the time. I always avoided the tiger exhibit. I told my dad "They can jump out if they want to and I'm not gonna be here when it happens" Nobody believed me! Well one jumped out and killed some people. And I told my dad "They're just not jumping out because they have no motivation" Well somebody gave them some motivation.

She says the number of cults is rising in these times. I guess I should not be surprised. She says there is not a typical kind of person who becomes a cult member, but any type of person can be recruited, particularly with the cult's systematic love bombing when the target person is in a lonely or isolated time.

One thing (of many) that is frightening of cults is desensitization to your own conscience, as the cult wants to replace that with their cult thinking. (they do this by keeping cult members extremely busy, for one, so they don't have time to reflect, and by having them take course after course initiating them into group think). And example of desensitization is being instructed to lie: i.e., Cult members are instructed to collect money on the street, telling people it is for a drug rehab center, and the collectors know there is no such place, but cult leaders have told them it is okay to lie to these outsiders because the outsiders on street it is are in some way lesser beings, and they are just restoring to God what is his. : (

Catholic teaching makes the morality of this perfectly clear - the catechism says, "The end doesn't justify the means". So even if it is for some great good that we know God really wants, the end doesn't justify it - you can't lie to the people whose money you are requesting. (Also Catholic teaching says there are no lesser beings. Every human has innate worth.)

What made you listen to this, BrightDSheep96? Have you been a cult member, or do you have someone close to you that has been?
