I am on a low salt diet. For the life of me, damn near all the food I own is very high in sodium! How the hell do you buy food without all this salt in it?

stuff that doesn't come in a box or can. a rule of thumb I've heard is to walk around the perimeter of the grocery store and not down the aisles. a lot of the salt you eat comes from the stuff they use to keep the food lasting longer in your cupboard. so watching your salt intake tends to mean cooking more and shopping more often. for real food that you actually have to prepare instead of just sticking in the microwave.
I have been on a microwave only diet for about 5 years! Crap!

cooking from raw ingredients is the best way. IMO the best food to learn to cook first is soup. ANd I recommend squash soup.
You need to cook by yourself i.e. buy vegetables, meat, potatoes, pasta or w/e and not pre-made crap.

In some places you'll need to wash/boil extra salt off the meat before consumption. The Man brainwashed the people into liking it, or something.
Reason is a whore.
Have fun eating bland food lol
Substitute it with sugar.

You go to the store and buy the low sodium variety of your favorite things.

Srsly guys... You're over thinking it.
Easy Day
At the moment I'm cooking dinner using a steam cooker.
Throwing in a few unpeeled potatoes from the fridge + salmon and frozen veggies from the freezer, setting the timer and then going back to the computer to surf the forum is cooking for the rest of us.
Food steamers ftw.

When cooking, instead of seasoning with salt, maybe try seasoning with herbs that are reported to assist in lowering blood pressure like garlic, oregano, saffron, fennel, basil, and black pepper.
Though I don't see what's wrong with a little salt.
Also, supplementing with CoQ10(Ubiquinone)/Ubiquinol -- preferably Ubiquinol as it is more readily used by the body -- has been proven to help treat hypertension pretty significantly. It's totally safe and I've tried it myself for other purposes.

And I would hide my face in you and you would hide your face in me, and nobody would ever see us any more.
Just avoid foods rich in salt and stick to veggies, unprocessed/minimally processed foods. That question is really dumb and it seems you're suffering from enforced ignorance besides high blood pressure.
That said, I'm going to make myself popcorn.

Lol and he didn't recommend exercise? Get exercise in some fashion 3x45 mins a week or just go for walks everyday for 30 minutes. If you have an office job get a treadmill desk or standup desk. Herbs/spice don't have salt if they are the pure herb/spice. Watch out for spice blends they are usually loaded down with salt to cut costs. Don't eat fast food. What others said about soups being easy is true: especially with any of these:slow cooker, high speed blender, food processor. Other supplements:fish oil. get liquid carlsons and take 1 tsp a day its the most efficient fish oil. Don't smoke, don't get wasted, sleep right, shed pounds. /end
I agree with the advice given already to stop eating pre-packaged pre-cooked meals and restaurant food. Salt is a great preservative, so whenever you are looking at pre-packaged food, there is going to be a lot of sodium in there. Monosodium glutamate is another huge source of sodium that is so ubiquitous. I make it a point to stay away from MSG for other reasons, so I've been reading labels (especially since i'm on an asian food craze lately), and it's just EVERYWHERE.
You really dont have to relegate yourself to eating bland food. There are lots of spices out there... just use them liberally and soon you'll even forget that salt is in your cupboard! I myself like strong flavors so i go heavy on the ginger, garlic, onions, hot pepper, sometimes cumin (if i'm desiring indian/middle eastern flavor), sometimes sesame oil (if chinese/korean/japanese flavor is wanted). I end up not using much salt in my cooking at all (just by accident, i'm not purposely avoiding it). Well, I do sometimes use soy sauce (which is quite salty), but you can really do without the soy sauce, and there are low-sodium soy sauces out there as well. Often i regret putting in the soy sauce anyway.
You can also use mirin, rice vinegar, balsamic vinegar, etc for flavor. There is so much more to good taste than salt!

Oh... p.s. slight point on the suggestions to increase sugar intake... sugar actually makes you crave salt, and vice versa (sweet and salty go really well together), so dont overdo the sugar either.

Food generally taste better properly seasoned, and salt is one of the basic seasonings. You're better off being on pills imo...^_^
Other option is to eat less in general.
