I actually think he doesn't really care, and for precisely the reasons you stated IMO. He's brash and not very good at knowing how he comes off, so, while he obviously care to some extent (everyone does...we all need human contact, relationships, etc), he kind of shrugs it off, and it's CERTAINLY not a major fixation for him to the point of motivating his primary enneagram type.
FWIW I think this phenomenon is actually rather common with 8s. But my assessment of park as an 8 goes much deeper than that, including things I stated earlier in the thread, and things that I can't really discuss without parkster's permission.

I don't have a comprehensive picture of the Enneagram like you do, but from what I've read in the past E8 has never hit home with me. I have considered a 9 briefly, but the descriptions depicted it as a very shallow, indifferent type, with "mediating" abilities which I wasn't sure I had. FWIW, the ennegram descriptions I've felt the most attracted to (but haven't related to much myself) have been 7s, and I remember I thought that if I had an enneagram conflictor it would be the 2, or 2w3 more specifically.

Hmmm...well 8w9 is tops of my list for you right now, I think you are definitely in the Rejection triad and a Reactive type, which leaves only 8. I'd say read up on it. You have some 4 qualities but it doesn't seem to run deep enough for me to think you are truly a 4. I would consider 5 as well but 8 seems like a good fit overall IMO. You're not as expansive or stereotypically extroverted as a typical 8, but then you are sp/sx and an introvert which makes sense of that bit.
My short list for your E-type would be 8>5>4.
