Plastic is less easy afaik, since cartons just get pulped and jars melted. I guess the chemicals involved need comparison.

I don't know why the US has so much stuff in bulky packaging and etc, most stuff should get packaged in a more efficient manner.

I noticed that when I went out of the country. Everything is a lot smaller and more practical in other countries. The US tends to overdo everything. I barely saw one overweight person outside the US...one thing that I immediately noticed when I got back was the abundance of "larger" people.

But large packaging is more efficient. I'm actually underweight but I can never seem to get enough out of our packaging, I'm hungry and they're reducing it more bit by bit So my general rule is to buy in bulk and save money$, buy more toilet papers, and not have to go shopping as much.

I like how they're now also putting the calories of things on fast food menus....which still doesn't stop people. I used to eat Jack in the Box almost twice a day til I found out there's 1200 calories in one meal...almost my entire calorie limit for the whole day, it's disgusting. Subway is the same way, don't be fooled! I still don't cook but I don't eat that crap.

Well yea essentially whether in the fridge or not, there's oxidation going on, and plenty of chemical reactions with whatever else is in your fridge that can travel through cold air.

My brother commented that all the serving sizes in Australia are pretty big. I think it's the marketing that is done to cater to the average size of it's buyers... Americans and Australians are much larger than most Asians so yea.

I mean Carl's Junior in Singapore shrunk the patty after like a year of the franchise's arrival in local markets. Then they started marketing the original size patty as 'super patty' or something and upped the price tons...

Pretty smart, milking the Asian wallet like that lol.

I've always grown-up with milk in bags rather than cartons. You get 3 pouches in a bag and it's cheaper than the cartons and jugs; although I've used carton milk on occasions, I find it leaves a nasty slimy build-up on the opening of the carton which doesn't happen with the bags

When the bag is like 1.3 L, it doesn't take that long to drink. 2 days max? If i were an American, I would be more concerned about the pus in your milk.

Side topic on packaging: regular size Lays chips in the US are 'super size' in Canada.

Yeah, I've only ever really seen it in Ontario and Québec. In the Ottawa Valley (where a lot of milk is farmed) those milk bags are called Piggies. On the subject of keeping the milk fresh, I agree with fmh, it really doesn't take long to go through a litre of milk. And even so it keeps for at least a week in an open bag in the fridge. You only cut off a little corner opening. Also, piggies aren't recycled, but many people use them as sandwich bags by cutting off the top and rinsing them.

I'm pretty sure I've explained all of this before on the forum.

American milk might go bad faster when opened because of how gross it is. (I'm super careful about milk sources, personally. All Americans should go watch Food, Inc.) Also, once upon a time, people kept their own cows and milked them and kept the milk uncovered in their fridges, and that was standard. It hasn't always come in jugs and cartons (or bags.)
