Yeah personally I don't see a huge problem with it. Not that you have to be poor/live in squalor to be an artist...

But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...
Yet even then, we ran like the wind,
Whilst our laughter echoed,
Under cerulean skies...
Not every student artist can afford a nice place to rent. Majority of the artists aren't even made to satisfy the needs of commercialism and capitalism so they basically earn no money for what they do until they get their degree. I have a friend who lives in Utrecht, Holland. She works two days per week and earns 800 euros a month, other days she studies. If she tried to rent a flat there she would end up paying all that salary on the rent, however now she lives in a cozy squat with her friends and can spend all those 800 euros on whatever she desires (taking in mind that 400 euros a month is enough to satisfy your needs after you paid for your place and main things). Plus squat atmosphere = creativity to the maximum. You have to visit one to really see what I am talking about.

Beside that aren't you poor yourself without the money of your parents?
There are so many squatters in Europe because being dependent on your parents after you turn 20 is not a respectable thing in here.

Oh fuck off. I'm not getting drawn into your vortex again, you conniving whore.
But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...
Yet even then, we ran like the wind,

Why so bitter? I didn't meant to offend you. I was only explaining why squatting is needed for young people...
"Not that you have to be poor/live in squalor to be an artist... "
I just meant that everybody should have a right to be an artist, this would make the world a much better and nicer place, even poor people must have this right and even those whose parents doesn't want to support them. And squatting makes all of this affordable. How much of money an average artist makes? Not much and they need to eat and have a place to sleep too...

Anyone who really cares about themselves and their art, and is truly involved in it, can find a profession and still pursue their creative work, unless they actually ARE stupid and lazy.
But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...
Yet even then, we ran like the wind,

I will talk with you after you will try being a real artist yourself. Now you are only up to that road. And it's a long way... what will you do all this time w/o your parents? If you lived in Europe I am sure you would end up looking for mates to squat with. And what would you do in America?

First of all, I'm not permanently dependent on my parents, and have been financially independent, WHILE working on my art, WHILE going to school, so you can take your passive aggressive condescension and sit on it. Really rich, coming from someone who has never even had a full-time job, let alone supported herself.
Secondly, I am a real artist, so you can sit on that shit too. You can MAYBE talk shit when you're working on three books and have written enough poetry to publish 10+ volumes.
Thirdly, no matter where I live or what I do, I'm not going to live like a fucking hobo for my whole life, no matter how "romantic" it sounds; unlike most "artists" I have a realistic perspective on life that is not incongruous with my artistic ideals.
But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...
Yet even then, we ran like the wind,
Whilst our laughter echoed,
Under cerulean skies...
By the way, in case you didn't notice and are letting your anger slip without your knowledge, you're being a massive fucking hater.
But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...
Yet even then, we ran like the wind,
Whilst our laughter echoed,

Actually you misinterpret me. But anyway I don't care, I was actually interested in hearing your opinions without having any hating... the only thing I hate is pure capitalism, not you, not anybody else. thank you.
Also I don't write and I have no right to criticize your writings. I haven't even seen them. I just think a real artist has to be recognized by others and nobody can call themselves a REAL artist until there aren't enough of people recognizing you as one.

That's exactly why you will never be an artist yourself.
But, for a certainty, back then,

We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...

Funny how I'm much better at talking and relating to people than someone who has Fe in their base function.
GET A JOB, YOU FUCKING BEATNIKS.

We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...

probably true, but talent usually recognizes itself in a way that mediocrity can't.Originally Posted by sarinana

That's true. I just think that everybody has that artistic side in them but not everybody notices it and even those who notice it often don't know how to use it to the maximum or if they are using it in the right way. That's why for an artist is more pleasant to hear "Hey! Keep on going. I LOVE WHAT YOU ARE DOING!" than to get 100 bucks and hear nothing. Art is just like beauty and love, it doesn't need money. You can't fall in love with somebody just because she gave you money, can you? The same way you can't make art just because you are being paid. And I don't think that for an artist money or being called "a real artist" is important. The recognition is only the same as knowing that you are doing the right thing and that people love what you are doing. An artist waits for this recognition instead of just going around and shouting out loud "HEY! I am an artist!"
And this is also to heath, since IMO artists don't make good money unless they do commercial art, which is not attractive to many of the artists, there must be some circumstances that would allow more people to express themselves. Legal squatting is one of them.

heath is correct.
