Being as witty and clever as i am, I've decided that i am indeed better than the old adage "Selling ice to Eskimos" implies and thusly I needed a new old adage. It took me a bit to come up with something that would be harder than selling ice to Eskimos, but in the end. I decided that selling Lava to Eskimos would be much harder. Here are the pro's and con's of each.

    ICE-pro
Used for building materials, could actually sell an Eskimo a New house.
When melted creates water, an essential life necessity.

    ICE-con
    It's everywhere!

    Lava-pro
Could possibly be used to build a new type of house when it solidifies (the house however would be very porous and I think be less insulated than a Igloo)

    Lava-con
    MELTS THEIR HOMES!
    MELTS THEM
    SMELLS LIKE SULFUR (Rotten Eggs)

Now looking at that list I'm sure that you have realized that selling Lava to Eskimos would be much harder. I however, could do it. And that's why i say i could sell Lava to Eskimos, because Selling Ice to them would be far to easy for some one of my caliber. *brushes dirt off his shoulder*
Sorry, I just saw this and I had to come play devil's advocate.

Your entire premise (and the adage itself) assumes that eskimos live in winterland all year round, which is untrue. They don't live in igloos, their snow melts every year, and they probably already buy ice for coolers, ice dispensers and such.

Now selling lava would be impressive, not so much because an eskimo is concerned about things melting, but because you would need to capture the lava first and then be able to keep it in a molten form.

Once it's a solid, you could sell that to anyone. Who doesn't want a lava rock? That shit is awesome.
