what type would you want them to be?
Someone from my quadra or semi-dual. Not because he would be better or worse but I imagine I would find it easier to connect and understand them better (and vice versa).

I want my son to be my identical and my daughter to be my dual. That way, the male/female roles will never be in doubt.

Anything in my quadra is cool.
Outside my quadra probably ISTj for the son and Beta NF for the daughter.

NOOOOO! you cannot do this! That is the whole theory behind personality type. Children are born with a personality type and it manifests inside of them. A good way that story writers try to personify this is in superheroes--esspecially season one of Heroes and X-men where their "super power" is their personality type. Once they become aware they are a certain way--at first they are uncomfortable, and then they start to grow and bloom and accept their personalities.
NOT to say you should just stand by if they are a type that you will not get along with. You can help them to develop strengths where they will be weak in the future, but for the love of god don't try to change them. They are not clay for you to mold--they mold in your belly and come out how god made them.

We're mostly discussing what would be most convenient here... but actually, I'm currently thinking of personality type as a learned trait.

Nah. All of my kids have shown their personalities in various ways from day one. Even in the womb. I'll never buy that it's learned.
and if I got to choose my kids' personalities, it would be ISFp. That's what my son is, and he's delightful (and easy!). ESFj is also easy and great to have in a child because they love school and are socially liked and seem to enjoy life so much. I imagine ESTp toddlers could be pretty challenging. My INFp daughter is difficult even though we're identicals. She contradicts everything and worries and mopes and is the most problematic of the three.

haha yeah and it was the same in my family of origin although we were all introverts so that calmed things down a bit. (tho there were nights at the dinner table when my dad, my brother and I would be rolling on the floor, we were laughing so hard). I have to say, it can be intense. Sometimes in a good way and something in an overly dramatic bad way. There's often TOO much emotional expression and I wish there was a better way of tempering it. I spend a lot of energy trying to be the calm, logical one.

My daughter is my identical, and that's nice. Plus my husband is both of our dual and it just keeps everyone from fighting. If there's an argument, it's between her and me, and my husband gets everything settled quickly.
No idea what type the baby is. Something quiet.
I agree with redbaron that they show at least enough of their personality right form birth, and to some extent in the womb, to prove that it isn't learned anyway.

Definitely an introvert for the first kid. Probably an ISFp, since they're such easy babies. I'd like a male ENTx for one of the younger kids. It's good to have a comedian around. An IXTj would be nice to have...maybe an ESFp-Fi...I get two more. An ESTj or a Female ISTp. And an INFj. Can I choose their enneagram types as well?

I dont care as long as they're from Alpha.
If it couldn't be Alpha I'd go with Ti ESTp, Ni INFp, or maybe Te ISTp.
Also, @RainbowSprinkles I highly doubt type is genetic. Maybe some aspects like temperament could be, but imo type is "nurture over nature" even if thats a silly dichotomy.
The end is nigh
Okay so I don't know that it's genetic per se, only that it's there from the time they're born. I'm only saying that I don't believe personality is the result of nurture or home environment or personalities of parents. I'm not saying nurture is unimportant only that the basics of how the child processes information and takes in the world, are already in place and don't change much. Levels of health change, obviously. AA was saying "nurture over nature" and I don't think that's right. Nurture is what we have control over, so obviously we should pay attention but a child's personality is there from day one, whether genetic or caused by womb environment.

I suppose dual would be the best.

This is a really nice answer.
As far as my own kids, I don't think I have any particular personality type or traits that I would want them to have. I guess I'd just want them to be happy, their own person, open to other perspectives and to life, and to have a good heart. Everything else is pretty much optional.
