Here I was thinking i was all innocent with my 12 drinks a week. You're all making me look like some sort of alcoholic.

Wine is good in small doses. My stomach can't handle much though. I've never had a worse hangover in my entire life after i drank a few glasses of red wine. It's the worst hangover, ever.

Wine give me the happiest and warmest buzz if I drink enough of it. I don't get in to many mixed drinks because that's when i'll more than likely feel like total shit in the morning...haha.

The ESE husband drinks a glass of red wine every night. I only drink at parties. I like g&ts, rum & cokes, margaritas and red wine. Once I was at a benefit dinner and had the most amazing chocolate martini ever in my life. I only had one but it gave me an incredible buzz that lasted the entire evening. ahhhhh....oh and I can't drink beer. I kinda wish I could because I like the idea of it (as giving me the image of being somehow a more normal low-maintenance person) but I dislike the taste.

You all hardly drink. It's sickening. *I* see myself as not drinking much anymore. And even I drink more than most of you seem to.

I mean, I'd probably drink 10 to 15 beers a week. Where's before, it used to be probably two to three times that, in equivilents.

OK I voted social- which isn't exactly true. Basically I don't drink at all unless I intend on getting completely wasted. This usually happens if I am with my crazy party friends, but occasionally can happen when I am alone.

So I drink irregularly either socially or alone- and only to get totally smashed....

Yeah, regular to me means eating out, drinking a couple of beers, seeing some friends, having a few drinks, and then a night of drinking. Or something along those lines.

I don't really dig alcohol and alcohol related activities in theory.

I do really enjoy the taste of wine, and wine is really good for you, so I drink a glass from time to time with certain friends.

I used to drink a glass every other night, but I quit that job...

In Wisconsin people drink a lot more than in most areas of the country. Here drinking a few times a month is less than average. There are a lot of people who have at least 6 drinks every day. Of course, there are also a lot who don't drink at all.

Overall though, people in Wisconsin drink more both in frequency and quantity than people in most other places in the US. Someone my size drinking over a dozen drinks in a night out at a bar is not at all unusual.

I'm pretty much in the same boat. Sometimes I'll go out 4 or 5 times a week and have 2-8 beers a night depending on what i'm actually out doing. Other times I may go an entire week and only have a beer or two. I actually like the taste of Good beer though, so a lot of the times I'm drinking, it's because I just really feel like a good beer. I actually don't like getting smashed very much...lol, but that doesn't keep it from happening from time to time... ask my drinking buddies on stickam...hahaha.

I only drink when I don't feel satisfied with the people I'm with (for example, if I go to a party and only know 1 person there, or if I have to socialise with people that I don't feel any connection with)

When i first discovered alcohol, it was bad...I had a lot of negative influences who drank very heavily on a daily basis and it almost made it seem like that was the normal, okay thing to do. I've seen a friend get completely consumed by it and i've unfortunately had to cut them out of my life. It's not easy being in that environment, you can get caught up in it. Of course whenever i'd pass on drinking, I was always labeled the "square". Even now, just about all the people i hang around with drink quite heavily...too much for my liking. I dont know how one can function drinking more than 2 or 3 nights a week but i guess it's just all in your tolerance level.

    And your propensity for alcoholism.
But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...

Yet even then, we ran like the wind,
    Whilst our laughter echoed,
    Under cerulean skies...

I can admit at that time I did have a problem with it. That's why it pisses me off so much when people (jokingly or not) bring up that i drink a lot. I probobly haven't made much of an image for myself after some of the things i say, but I've changed a lot and am working hard towards giving it up for good.

    BUT ANYWAYS.....moving on.

I think I've had alcohol maybe two or three times in my life (not counting medicines and whatnot) and I've never been drunk on it. I'm not against alcohol consumption provided it doesn't facilitate stupidity or bad behavior. And, personally, I don't want to get drunk because I don't want to lose control of myself.

So, should I put non-drinker, because it's so rare? Or occasional drinker, because it's not never?

I feel that way too. But there's this not-drunk but affected thing that I like about drinking. It's relaxing and opens me up to the point where I'm more willing to talk to people and be a little more fun than otherwise when my defenses are up. So that's why I like to drink socially. Getting smashed though? Nah. But I'm old and past that sort of thing anyway.

Even that amount of affectedness might be a little too much for me, unless I'm around people I already know and trust. I don't know, it just makes me uncomfortable thinking about it. I guess I can't know for sure unless I try, but then again I have no real reason to try it. I'm usually happy the way I am and when I'm not happy or comfortable there are other things that I have and can do to help me that don't have as much potential for addiction or destructiveness as alcohol. Personally speaking.

if you drink less than 2-3 times a year, you should consider yourself a non-drinker.

Wow, maybe it's a EII thing. My EII mum says exactly the same things as Minde

I used to drink like a sponge when I drank - a regular booze hound (ie roaring drunk two or three days a week) back in my uni days. Nowadays I get somewhat drunk perhaps once a year, and very rarely touch alcohol at all, not even beer. I guess I simply got tired of waking up and singing the old - "Oh Lord never again" hangover prayer... I have relatives that are alcoholics, I decided I don't want to go down that path.

You should try lacking sleep, it pretty much makes you feel you're ---.
