i took the kids to see some serious fireworks tonight it was awesome. it felt like they were exploding 5 inches from your face. that, along with some horseradish hummous dip, made the night amazing. patriotic, and amazing. :-)

those who are easily shocked.....should be shocked more often
just watched the fireworks going off down the street =) not much for patriotism but still pretty neat.
Today only really felt like the fourth at the very end, when I took a group out to go see the big local fireworks show - which was actually pretty neat to watch. All the flashing and booming made me think of cannons and explosives and battle, which made me think of other things, like history and people and ideals... But I didn't think too hard on it all because I was too busy just enjoying the colors and sparkles and movement and music that the girls had blasting from my speakers.
The rest of the day felt weird in a usual sort of way. Out of normal, and slightly out of balance, but not too unlike what it was supposed to be. Not like a holiday, anyway.
I did read poetry today, though.
Oh, to find you in dreams - mixing prior, analog, and never-beens... facts slip and turn and change with little lucidity. except the strong, permeating reality of emotion.
About time: there are finally some halfway decent fireworks videos of Nashville's show coming up on Youtube. These are designed to be seen with music (the Saturns, for instance, appeared during the ET theme song, one of the less patriotic musical selections), but it's still fairly cool even without that here. Of course, I'm biased with hometown pride.

And the best part of the finale (the least epileptic friendly, as someone from the crowd points out ):

Some of those in the crowd are pretty drunk, heh.
A longer take of the finale, and you can just barely hear the music that's supposed to go with it:

Hope everyone had a good Independence day.
A few pics from tonight... I only got a few I liked due to the smoke along with it being my first time out to photograph fireworks. I kept having to wipe condensation off my lens too...lol
I saw the inside of a garbage can.
Drinking 10 redbulls and vodkas in a little under 3 hours is not recommended. Not recommended at all.
I drank nothing but Tennessee whiskey on the 4th. I'm a true American.

Happy Lol @ England Day.
Seriously though, they should stop calling it The Fourth Of July and start calling it by its actual name, Independence Day.
Easy question: Do you guys know why American Independence day is celebrated with fireworks?

Nope.
Think of the Star Spangled Banner by Francis Scott Key. Bombs bursting in air....and the flag was still there... meaning during the battle in Fort McHenry when the British blockaded the harbor, bombs and cannons were bursting throughout the night, but the British had not taken the harbor, which is the "and the (American) flag was still there..."

This is indeed my favorite holiday.
why the fuck is everyone speaking about independence day as if it happened yesterday
I'm rediscovering just how many things I do with my left hand today after burning the crap out of my left index finger last night.
Still - lighting 5 mortars at once: worth the pain.
ETA: Ewwww! (Actually, it doesn't hurt today - just has a strange pressure)

THIS THREAD IS IRONIC ON SEVERAL LEVELS....
I was not actually referring to the use of 'MURICA in this thread, because this could be seen as an ironic reference to the use of America as a synonym for USA itself. In German, it's very common to say "US-Americans" (especially in formal texts) if one strictly refers to citizens of the USA. We don't say US-America, though, but instead our equivalent of "United States" most of the time.
