I know I've made a thread like this before, but it was a while ago. Let's do it again.

(I suppose they don't really need to be fictional though.)

    From ze Bookz
    Paul Atreides (Dune)
Jon Snow (A Song of Ice and Fire)
    Ender Wiggin (Ender's Game)
    Ged (A Wizard of Earthsea)
    Peter Parker (Spiderman)

From ze TV Showz and Moviez
    Dr. Daniel Jackson (Stargate SG-1)
    John Crichton (Farscape)

    From ze Cartoonz
    Keiichi Morisato (Oh My Goddess!)
    Prowl (Transformers)
    Ashitaka (Mononoke Hime)
    Kira Yamato (Gundam Seed)
    Zelgadis Greywords (Slayers)

While I do not think that all of the above are probably LII, I must say that LII must not be popular characters to depict in fiction at least in stand-out roles.

Yeah, I actually identified pretty strong with Octavian from Rome. He seemed to repeatedly say and do what I would say and do in the situations he was in (especially immediately after Julius Caesar died). There are very, very few characters I can say this of (I can't really think of any, actually).

Hmm, off the top of my head some rough examples might be (I don't necessarily think they are the same type as I am):

Stephen Daedalus - A Portrait of the Artist As a Young Man
    Vash - Trigun
    Ashitaka - Princess Mononoke
    Kambei Shimada - Seven Samurai
    Felix - Armor
    Moonlight will fall
    Winter will end
    Harvest will come

I can still kind of see why I pulled these characters out, but honestly I don't know of many that really fit my social character. It's just I tend to be quiet and more affable than these people. Eh, I'm sort of Billy Crudup-ish. And I'm not sure how I feel about it. He's sort of a dork.

speaking of which I can't make a spoiler with a video of him being a dork, which incidentally makes me sort of an idiot.

One of the biggest problems with the Matrix Trilogy, and even the first movie, was that it lacked character personality development. Yea it showed him become "The One" or the anomaly , but in all honesty you didn't really learn much about Neo, he didn't really present his personality. The most developed character in the trilogy was probably Morpheus. The creative details are what usually make a good movie into a great movie. And the Matrix lacked them in the character department. I'm not complaining because I loved the Matrix, especially the first movie. I'm probably actually one of the people that actually thought the 3rd movie was good or decent. The second two Matrix movies are the most misunderstood movies of all time.

Yeah, I really can't see anything to substantiate the typing of House as ESI. That seems pretty insane to me, personally. I'd say ILI would work better than Alpha NT, though; he does seem to value Se.

I can see a lot of evidence to suggest House is ESI, but I can also see a bunch of other stuff that makes me question it.

Han Solo is the most obvious - for all the reasons LV posted, plus his irreverent wit .
    the narrator from Dhalgren
    Wolverine (X-men)
    Jazz (Transformers)
    Indiana Jones
Tony Stark in the Ironman movie
Phillip Lynx of the Flynx series
    Trinity from the Matrix movies
Retief from the Keith Laumer books
Henry David Thoreau as himself in Walden
    Tank Girl
    Mal of the series Firefly
    Rock 'n Roll (GI Joe)
Dekard from Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep (not the movie Bladerunner, although I liked the movie)
Maureen from To Sail Beyond the Sunset

... but for the most part, I like to place myself alongside the action, instead of substituting myself for a given character. I get "into" authors, mostly science fiction (and even though most of the characters above are male, don't worry - I'm not gender dysphoric!).
My favorite authors would be (not in order): Samuel R. Delaney, Phillip K. Dick, Robert Heinlein, Orson Scott Card (SF ONLY), Phillip Jose Farmer, Michael Moorcock, Alan Dean Foster, William Gibson, Ursual K. LeGuin, Piers Anthony (non-Xanth), George Alec Effinger, Neil Gaiman, Barbara Kingsolver, C.J. Cherryh, Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams, Harry Turtledove ... and when they're co-authoring more than by themselves, Larry Niven, Jerry Pournelle, Roger Zelazney and Arthur C. Clarke. That's just off the top of my head; I'm sure I've missed several others. But all of those names represent at least a handful of books read by me. Also I'll read just by inertia, which is how I've read handfuls by authors I don't even think are that good, such as Robert Jordan, Terry Goodkind, Robert Aspirin, Jack L. Chalker and Stephen King (although I've had several friends tell me I will love the Dark Tower series).
So, I guess you could say that I identify more with authors of fiction than with fictional characters ... I'm reading a series by Kelly McCullough right now and as much as I'm enjoying it, I don't see any characters that feel like me.

OK, I put these in categories of strength, since putting all 16 in order would be kinda facetious/arbitrary. Obviously the cartoon ones (like Jazz) are lower on the list because I'm no longer the child I was at the time I formed the association.

    1. Han Solo
    1. the narrator from Dhalgren
    1. Henry David Thoreau as himself in Walden
    1. Phillip Lynx of the Flynx series
    2. Mal of the series Firefly
    2. Tony Stark in the Ironman movie
    2. Retief from the Keith Laumer books
    2. Dekard from Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep
    2. Robert Redford's character in Out of Africa
    3. Wolverine (X-men)
    3. Jazz (Transformers)
    3. Indiana Jones
    3. Trinity from the Matrix movies
    3. Tank Girl
    3. Rock 'n Roll (GI Joe)
    3. Maureen from To Sail Beyond the Sunset

Oh man, after reading these I definitely have to add Will Hunting and Han Solo to my list.

(Hell, waiting area. Many souls are there, wondering where they are, and why.)
Hell Director: Hello, newcomers, and welcome. Can everybody hear me? (taps the mic a few times) Hello? Can everybuh-? Okay. (the crowd quiets down) Uh, I'm the hell director. Uh, it looks like we have about 8,615 of you newbies today, and for those of you who are a little confused, uh, you are dead, and this is hell, so, abandon all hope and uh yada yada yada. Uh, we are now going to start the orientation process, which will last about-

Man 4: Hey, wait a minute, I shouldn't be here. I was a totally strict and devout Protestant! I thought we went to heaven!

Hell Director: Yes, well I'm afraid you were wrong.

    Soldier: I was a practicing Jehovah's Witness.

Hell Director: Uh, you picked the wrong religion as well.

Man 5: Well, who was right? Who gets into heaven?

Hell Director: I'm afraid it was the Mormons. Yes, the Mormons were the correct answer.

    Crowd: (disappointed) Awww.

On thinking about it again, I'm not sure that I identify with any fictional characters... Maybe Michel in The Immoralist, but only partially, and that's as close as I've gotten.

I tend to identify more with famous people who have died... You know, Gide himself, John Lennon, Jean Cocteau... Or the ideals of what they were trying to accomplish--Victor Hugo, Jesus Christ, Wm. S Burroughs... Than any of their artistic creations. (This list of people changes all the time too.)

    Jonathan Levinson from Buffy.

I also identity with all 4 Buffy characters. (the core scoobs, Buffy/Willow/Xander/Giles) pretty equally as I'm really like all 4 of them.

Buffy and Jonathan share a strong psychological connection as well.

I think I already posted here at some point, but I felt like doing it again

    Howl from Howl's Moving Castle
Every protagonist in Herman Hesse's major works
    Fat Charlie from Anansi Boys
V from V for Vendetta (he is more like a fully-realized version of me)
Cornelius from Fight Club (I know, cheesy, but seriously.)
Frank Abignale Jr. from Catch Me If You Can

But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...

A mix of Aramis and d'Artagnan
    Gona add a few more.

    Tyrion and Jaime Lannister
Edmond Dantes(prior to being the Count of Monte Cristo)
    Marius (Les Miserables)
    Quasimodo
Probably more d'Artagnan then Aramis these days

    Riddick, chronicles of riddick.
Spike Spiegel, cowboy bebop...strongly identify with him the most.
    Edward elric, fma.
Both the blonde that was murdered by nucky and The butcher from boardwalk empire.
Aizen, both of his personas, bleach.
    Mugen, samurai champloo.

Some others can't think of right now.

    Suzuha from Steins;Gate (to a T)
Gintoki from Gintama, though my stupidity is less blatant
Amu from Shugo Chara (yes, I watched some of that, I admit it) though less likable and less cheerful
Movie-verse Utena from Revolutionary Girl Utena (almost to a T)
I'd add Shane from The L Word if that wasn't such a cliche thing to say since it seems 9/10 lesbians feel the same. And I can't relate to the general sluttiness, but whatevs.

    to a lesser extent
Reinhard from Legend of the Galactic Heroes
Ellen from the 90's sitcom featuring Ellen Morgan (Ellen DeGeneres)

But I generally find it hard to relate to most any fictional character, really. I can empathize and sympathize with many, but to really identify with is a stretch.

When I was a little girl, I strongly identified with Ramona the Pest. I haven't reread those books in over 30 years, so am not sure if I still would or not...but I do have a video of me boinging my daughter's blonde super curly hair.
