Interesting. I should perhaps reevaluate my initial typing of Gregory Peck as an LII.

Well I think that character was LSE, I have no particular view on Peck's type, except that he was almost certainly Rational.

    Gandalf in the movies.

Picard (and the interactions between Picard and Q remind me of those between my brother and I).

    Lelouch in Code Geass.

Jon Snow in A Song of Ice and Fire.

    Seth Bullock in Deadwood.

    Edward Scissorhands
    Conrad (Ordinary People)
Holden Caufield - as a teenager; i'm sure tons of others here did as well
Claire and Nate Fisher (Six Feet Under)
    Joel (from Eternal Sunshine...)
    Ethan Frome

There are more but I don't feel like taxing my brain right now.

The only character that i've been able to relate to has been Han Solo. Lazy, likes adventure, and hates being told what to do.

Hmm, off the top of my head some rough examples might be (I don't necessarily think they are the same type as I am):

Stephen Daedalus - A Portrait of the Artist As a Young Man
    Vash - Trigun
    Ashitaka - Princess Mononoke
    Kambei Shimada - Seven Samurai
    Felix - Armor

I actually hated Peter and his rather self-righteous attitude in the books. He was just as annoying in the movie as well (though not nearly as bad as Lucy in both books and movie).

Dr. House should be a person that a lot of INTjs and ENTps should identify with.

Um, What?!?! ESI? I mean I'm not trying to embarrass you intentionally, but thats quite possibly the most laughable typing I've ever heard. Thats like saying Mike Tyson is INFj.

House is ENTp or INTj, though he is a bit more sarcastic and bitter acting than the average one, though there are some just like him. Alpha thinker is really the only typing that makes sense for him though.

One of the biggest problems with the Matrix Trilogy, and even the first movie, was that it lacked character personality development. Yea it showed him become "The One" or the anomaly , but in all honesty you didn't really learn much about Neo, he didn't really present his personality. The most developed character in the trilogy was probably Morpheus. The creative details are what usually make a good movie into a great movie. And the Matrix lacked them in the character department. I'm not complaining because I loved the Matrix, especially the first movie. I'm probably actually one of the people that actually thought the 3rd movie was good or decent. The second two Matrix movies are the most misunderstood movies of all time.

Yeah, I really can't see anything to substantiate the typing of House as ESI. That seems pretty insane to me, personally. I'd say ILI would work better than Alpha NT, though; he does seem to value Se.

(Hell, waiting area. Many souls are there, wondering where they are, and why.)
Hell Director: Hello, newcomers, and welcome. Can everybody hear me? (taps the mic a few times) Hello? Can everybuh-? Okay. (the crowd quiets down) Uh, I'm the hell director. Uh, it looks like we have about 8,615 of you newbies today, and for those of you who are a little confused, uh, you are dead, and this is hell, so, abandon all hope and uh yada yada yada. Uh, we are now going to start the orientation process, which will last about-

Man 4: Hey, wait a minute, I shouldn't be here. I was a totally strict and devout Protestant! I thought we went to heaven!

Hell Director: Yes, well I'm afraid you were wrong.

    Soldier: I was a practicing Jehovah's Witness.

Hell Director: Uh, you picked the wrong religion as well.

Man 5: Well, who was right? Who gets into heaven?

Hell Director: I'm afraid it was the Mormons. Yes, the Mormons were the correct answer.

    Crowd: (disappointed) Awww.

I can see a lot of evidence to suggest House is ESI, but I can also see a bunch of other stuff that makes me question it.

Han Solo is the most obvious - for all the reasons LV posted, plus his irreverent wit .
    the narrator from Dhalgren
    Wolverine (X-men)
    Jazz (Transformers)
    Indiana Jones
Tony Stark in the Ironman movie
Phillip Lynx of the Flynx series
    Trinity from the Matrix movies
Retief from the Keith Laumer books
Henry David Thoreau as himself in Walden
    Tank Girl
    Mal of the series Firefly
    Rock 'n Roll (GI Joe)
Dekard from Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep (not the movie Bladerunner, although I liked the movie)
Maureen from To Sail Beyond the Sunset

... but for the most part, I like to place myself alongside the action, instead of substituting myself for a given character. I get "into" authors, mostly science fiction (and even though most of the characters above are male, don't worry - I'm not gender dysphoric!).
My favorite authors would be (not in order): Samuel R. Delaney, Phillip K. Dick, Robert Heinlein, Orson Scott Card (SF ONLY), Phillip Jose Farmer, Michael Moorcock, Alan Dean Foster, William Gibson, Ursual K. LeGuin, Piers Anthony (non-Xanth), George Alec Effinger, Neil Gaiman, Barbara Kingsolver, C.J. Cherryh, Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams, Harry Turtledove ... and when they're co-authoring more than by themselves, Larry Niven, Jerry Pournelle, Roger Zelazney and Arthur C. Clarke. That's just off the top of my head; I'm sure I've missed several others. But all of those names represent at least a handful of books read by me. Also I'll read just by inertia, which is how I've read handfuls by authors I don't even think are that good, such as Robert Jordan, Terry Goodkind, Robert Aspirin, Jack L. Chalker and Stephen King (although I've had several friends tell me I will love the Dark Tower series).
So, I guess you could say that I identify more with authors of fiction than with fictional characters ... I'm reading a series by Kelly McCullough right now and as much as I'm enjoying it, I don't see any characters that feel like me.

OK, OK, I know I dropped a lot of names already, but last night I thought of more: Kurt Vonnegut, T. C. Boyle, Ken Kesey and Tom Robbins. I can't believe I forgot about Vonnegut ...
All the authors I've mentioned have very good characterizations - I mention them as a recommendation. I think fiction is an exploration of what it means to be human, and science fiction in particular gives us the ability to take away the limitations of our current environment, societies, technologies, etc. The older I get, the more I read nonfiction, but I'll always love fiction for the way it conceives of reality.

Also, I greatly identified with Robert Redford's character in the movie Out of Africa. I actually cried when he died, but not because he died - I cried because he left Meryl Streep's character behind.

I am now curious as to how people would prioritize the characters on their list. Perhaps the next part of this thread should involve people arranging the characters in their lists from greater to lesser amounts of personal identification?

I haven't really thought much about this before. I find that it's very rare that I strongly identify with any fictional characters I've ever read or seen.

The only one that really comes to mind at the moment is

    Greg Focker (Meet the Parents)

It's just... I can't really figure out the words to explain why this is, but I distinctly remember watching the movie in theatre and feeling very strongly empathetic towards him. Like I could feel the slippery slope he was going through and the inability to say anything as it was happening. It just felt too real to me. Edit: Despite the fact that I haven't gone through anything similar in substance to what he went through, I felt that it could just as well be me in his place and I'd have felt pretty much exactly as he did.

    Hmm...

I'll have to think about it some more. I'm sure there are others, but I really can't think of any more at the moment.

    Tsunade from Naruto
    Miroku from Inuyasha

    Non-anime:

Lex Luther from Smallville (sort of)
    Octavian from Rome

I'll add more as I think of them.
Octavian >>>>> Nami > Tsunade > Miroku > Lex Luther

It's sort of difficult with the anime characters though because my demeanor is probably most like Miroku's, but I don't flirt like he does. I'm not violent like Nami and Tsunade, but I don't live in a world of ninjas or pirates. I don't know.

    You are my new hero.

I can't think of any characters I identify with.

Tifa Lockhart from FFVII, no contest. Often I feel like I AM her.

I've strongly identified with Alice from Alice in Wonderland from a very young age. I can't think of any other characters at the moment - I can of many I like, though not necessarily resemble.

Heh, my group of friends at school compared our little druggyverse to Wonderland and I was the Mad Hatter
But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...

Yet even then, we ran like the wind,
    Whilst our laughter echoed,
    Under cerulean skies...

Another character I strongly identify with, that I had forgotten about, is Kyosuke from "Orange Road" - I don't know if it is as famous in the US as it is here though.

    Genya Tachibana (Millenium Actress)

Edit: Damn, that was probably the best movie I've seen in a long time...
