@maizemedley: I think I understand you there. I'm not normally empathetic or even sympathetic unless I'm in that state of mind (the

"I want to be helpful" mode). If I'm not in that state of mind I don't always understand other people's emotions (but I still notice them), I get too caught up in the "bigger picture" and I wonder why they're so reactive, knowing what I know (of course,
they don't know - 'theory of mind' problems on my part, I guess).
Hmmm, it just occurred to me that my
