Style? Or cutting edge vs. old? I'm often late to discover a particular band... I discovered The Pogues in the late 90s. But I like to listen to a great variety of styles, so I discover other bands that people usually don't know.

Generally pretty dark - you could even depressing - stuff. However, I also just listen to anything that I like. It's good music if it sends a shiver down my spine.

I’m interested in a wide range of styles – from classical music to metal. Usually my mood has a strong influence on my choice of music I’m listening to. Right now I'm interested more in gothic, alternative, prog rock/metal (The 69 eyes, Sonata Arctica, Nightwish, Within-temptation, Dream Theater, Pain of Salvation). I find mainstream boring and that's why I'm always searching for something new and unusual.

I'm old. That influences my musical tastes more than anything!

I like the Smiths, David Bowie, Erasure, Depeche Mode, any of that 80s stuff. Well David Bowie is 70s/80s but anyway . . .

Stuff I hear now I like is Keane, The Killers, and Coldplay. I read that Coldplay is a band for 30something women who want to think they're still hip So maybe I'm proof that's true!

From the older bands I like Queen. I think Keane and Coldplay are good bands, but I'm not a great fan of them.

So do you have a differnt type of music you listen to when with others than you do by yourself? For example when Im around other people I listen to more mainstream upbeat music. Perhaps because thats what most people can relate to. When Im alone my music sometimes offbeat, low and moody or nostalgic. When Im in my car I listen to faster, percsucion driven music. I often use music to change my mood or prepare for something like an interview or a date I even have certain music set aside for overcast and rainy days. I cant bear to listen to it any other time.

Yes, when around other people I listen to music to what they can relate to. And I do use music to change my mood or that fits to my mood the best at the moment. Creative ?

I remember when I was young that I would train myself to like different things to excape boredom. My father liked country music and us kids did not fancy it all. I remember we were on a long road trip with my father at the helm and he insisted we listen to country music all the way Oh no!
All the other radio stations cut out and country was all that was left. (This was long before the days of dvds and video in cars)
Anyway, I decided to try to get into the music. I just started singing the songs and my father, he laughed, it made him happy. We had such a good time.
Many years later I moved to NY, and I whenever I turned on the radio and heard a country song it made me think of home. Its funny the sentiments you can put in a country song that you cant put in other songs. I think thats what makes it OK. Im not really a country music fan but if it helps me bond with dear old dad then I can learn to like it

I like whatever music fits my mood at the time, though I generally choose lyrics (when there are lyrics) that lift me up as opposed to pull me down. I can say that I usually like acoustic better than electric and harmony better than dissonance.

Anything with violins. So much intense emotion. My mind and body resonate with every pull of the bow. Estacy. Love Mannheim Steamroller. Love piano also.

@Topaz: Loved reading your dad memories. My parents were big singers when we traveled. My mom has a beautiful voice. Always going for rides. Ahh . . . the good ol' days.

PS. Country music . . . yucky (spit, spit).

Is there something wrong with me since music is not really an important part of my life I mean if I go dancing I listen to dance music. In Christmas I listen to related songs. In car I usually listen to whatever in on radio. But these are more or less tied to some activity or special occasion. In a typical day with no special happenings I don't really listen to music at all...

I was thinking umbrella was a little more ESI, but it could go for both. I like the song myself.

Really? ESIs always struck me as being uninterested in providing that safety net for people. The chorus strikes a massive chord with me and near as I can tell I'm an INFj, so eh.

    When the sun shines
    We shine together
Told you I'll be here Forever
Said I'll always be your friend
Took an oath I'ma stick it out till the end
Now that it's raining more then ever
Know that we'll still have each other

When an ESI has you on their inner circle, they will pretty much fight for the death for you. + does not take bonds (or the breaking of them) very lightly. They won't provide a safety net for EVERYONE, particularly people they don't care about or aren't in their sphere, but, I think this song is definitely about someone close to Rhianna.

I think an ESI would somewhat relish enduring hardships for and with someone they care about.

This is not to say an EII cannot do any of these things, either.

PS: I think the chorus is kind of very IJ static in general. I'm sure a lot of gammas would say that the "forever" bit is particularly gamma because it has an added time element and implies a long term relationship/togetherness.

That being said, the chorus is something I like, and don't have any problems with relating to it in terms of how I'd experience a relationship with an EII

    Help me Deltas!
Wait, are we even supposed to be listening to music? The only "music" we should be listening to is the sound of two knitting needles gently striking each other, and the ever so stimulating bass sound of the yarn rubbing against them. Of course, we couldn't leave out the enticing activity of chopping firewood for the cabin, with it's whimsical and harmonious beats, made all the more enjoyable thinking of the wife and 5 kids we are caring for. Any other activities would be too stimulating for our Delta comfort levels. Do you guys know anything about Socionics?
