Sandoval is great. He's a fucking legend. I like a great deal of his music. But it's also true that in terms of "style" and expression I'd prefer other trumpeters like Freddie Hubbard, Roy Hargrove, Nicholas Payton and Terence Blanchard. Their music possesses a level of mental and emotional depth compared to which Sandoval turns into a less interesting, somewhat shallow sounding figure with lots of wasted/inappropriately used techinque.
