    Exactly.
Unless we run out of oil before we develop sustainable energy technology, or if we blow ourselves up (not unlikely). That would be Darwin at his finest.
We will develop it, simply because we have to. And obviously the various oil reserves will not run out at exactly the same time. They'll run out one by one, over who-knows-how-many years. Catastrophism is a political ploy.

Who said they would run out at the same time? And what says that something will happen just because it's good for us? We're pretty fucking stupid sometimes.
But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...

Yet even then, we ran like the wind,
    Whilst our laughter echoed,
    Under cerulean skies...

Letting greed and sloth take priority over survival is stupidity, as far as I'm concerned.

They both are deadly sins after all. Wouldn't it be appropriate if everyone died because of them.

Fortunately economy will soon make it more comfortable for people to use alternative energy for fueling cars. As petrol gets more and more expencive, the alternative fules get cheaper in comparison. And when people start using more and more of the alternative fuel, companies will come out with cheaper ways of manufacturing the alternative fuel. That is when sloth will come to our rescue - we will have to spend less hours working to drive the same amount with the alternative fuel. The problem right now is that oil is not expensive enough. (and if I'm not mistaken, it's twice as expensive in Europe compared to USA.) Also, when someone buys an American car here, he is considered a money-spender, because of amount of oil that the car consumes. Right now oil isn't expensive enough worldwide.

Found it. An article from 18.07.2007. Price of one liter of oil. link
    Estonia 0,89 eurot
    USA 0,46 eurot
    Finland 1,30 eurot
    China 0,50 eurot
    Russia 0,56 eurot
    Japan 0,8 eurot
    Iran 0,07 eurot

Yeah, but stupidity tends to die out.

    EDIT: gradually, that is.

Ahahaha I like this one. I'm gonna have at least 4 kids, and my job is going to be coming up with new medicine and anti-aging drugs. I'm gonna be overpopulation's bitch (c:

But really, I too think that eventually resources will cost so much, that recycling and renewable energies will be used worldwide... we might have a period of adjustment and suffering but in the end we'll be fine.

I'm sure as hell not going to look for her in Venice, just the smell of the city is unbearable... and then people start talking!
I think overpopulation would be fine as long as we nuke Venice... quality counts, not just quantity.

Yup. So if we make the stupid decision, we will die out.

I think we've reached a mutual agreement in a rather roundabout manner

No, stupid individuals tend to die out. A entire species is more robust.
