If God and the Truth is the same thing, there is no truth since there is no God. And therefore I am always lying.Originally Posted by machintruc

Intuition
I suppose if an individual is in a situation where lying is expected, such as a game of poker, then I do not think that person does not harm anyone or one's self.
Obviously being honest is the most moral way of dealing with other people, but in my view, being honest is beneficial to the self.
anybody that suggests that lying is in and of itself immoral and reprehensible is a fool.
What if they do not suggest, but merely just explicitly and blatantly say it?Originally Posted by niffweed17

I have lied for the sake of humor.

In which case, you have affronted the Truth of God! Lying for the sake of humor, is still lying and therefore sinful and morally apprehensible! Off to confession with you!Originally Posted by UDP III

I confess my sins freely. There is nothing to hide.
Although this does remind me of a very good quote from the scriptures from memorial day weekend:
"Whatever sins you forgive in others, they will be forgiven against you. Whatever sins you hold against others, they will be held against you".

What if it is necessary to lie to tell the truth?

To lie to tell the truth may be to simply convince someone they appear a certain way in order to actually convince them that they're valuable. To state something explicitly that is false in order to imply something that is true...art often does this.

Lies exist because we need them. And, like everything, they have potential for both good and evil.
An important thing to keep in mind when lying is time. If a lie can't be reverted/forgotten after a short time, then there is a hint that it's something one shouldn't lie about.
