I care little for actual smartness, but much for perceived smartness. As such I always make sure I order smart sounding food in restuarants, For example I will request that my big mac is cooked rare and ask for a "selection of fine condiments", rather than ignorantly barking a request for "bbq sauce" or "ketchup". I find that this approach impresses both staff and customers.
