    Default Hand on the Chin

While I personally doubt the level of type correlation, I thought I would at least test the hypothesis here.

I was told by my peers that I have a fairly high number of casual or candid photos of myself, in which I have a hand/fingers resting around the area of my chin. This habit has also been pointed out by my friends at other times as well.

If it is type or IE related, I would be inclined to think that it is more frequent amongst Intuitive-egos (perhaps Ne > Ni) as it may loosely deal with somehow stimulating physical sensations (Si) while being lost in thought.

I constantly use my hands to prop up my face.

I think this is why I pace. When I touch my chin, I nearly always have my fingers covering my mouth, as though hiding it.

A half-serious guess as to why this is: types don't care that they're slack-jawed, but types prop up their jaws with their hands. I'm a mouth-breather, so I compensate for needing to keep my mouth open by hiding it with my hand.

: the human head weighs a lot. I am often resting my head on the side of my chair, the chair I sit in all day, or I am resting it against my hand... I always thought it was because if you let it go it will just fall on the floor and then what will you do.

I forgot about pacing while thinking. I find that it makes some people inexplicably nervous, though I find that walking, even if it is just pacing, does wonders for clear pondering.

I do this a lot. I even have baby pictures where I'm doing it. Maybe it is the Ne.

I pace when I talk on the phone. It used to annoy one of my roommates that I'd walk into his room, smile and wave, then walk out while my friend/family member/telemarketer talked my ear off.

I do this too. I don't know why, but I think much more clearly when I pace. Or go for a walk outside. My only theory is that when I'm sitting down or just standing still, I get distracted by nearby things in my environment, which alters the course of my thoughts. By keeping my surroundings in motion, I don't have time to focus on them, and my thoughts stay focused in my head. Or something.

I do the hand on chin/mouth thing too, while thinking. Not sure why.

I often do the hand on the chin. I never pace while thinking though, walking around makes me much less concentrated.

I usually put hand or fist to upper jaw near the ear, never really the chin. Sounds like an introverted thinker thing, as in a lazy way to think or capture thought.

You make it sound as if it was a conscious choice of intent when it likely is not.
