Which one do you prefer and why?
Seems pretty obvious which ones better
Illusionary is interquadra so there´s gonna be some disconnect when it comes to who your friends are and with whom you´re grouped with.

Activity, seems like a no-brainer.
The only in-quadra relation that is perhaps not as good as some inter-quadra relation is identity.
Identity > Mirror
... In theory at least.
Personally, I would likely prefer a Mirror guy over an Identical when it comes to dating.
Identical would be better for friendship only. I am the least interested in an Identical for dating now.
(Which is a bit ironic, because back in my MBTI days, I wanted to find a guy with the same type as me. )
You feel the same way about it? Then it would make sense for you to rank Identity lowest.
I also think Identity is better than Mirror.
I've dated a Mirror and there was just a constant feeling of disconnect. OTOH, I know a female LIE and I could see dating/sleeping with her. (She's said the same thing to me - Lol. Dat perfect communication.... ) It would be very comfortable if not very constructive.
With respect to my feelings about Activity vs Illusionary (Mirage) relationships, I can easily connect with Illusionary partners but have a really difficult time with Activity partners. Both have the same Erotic Attitudes as my Duals, but the j/p switch is significant, as is the Extrovert/Introvert difference.
Unfortunately, while Illusionary relationships are easy to start, there is a conditionality about them that doesn't exist in Dual relationships.
*EDIT*. I’ve been talking to a woman whom I thought was an ESI, but who turns out is an SEE. She’s close to my Imago and is easy to talk to. She seems to aggressively like me, so maybe I’ll get a chance to learn more about Activity vs. Mirage. Lol.

I worked for an Illusionary ESTP manager once at a very simple job during a period of underemployment. Oh man my customers were so look happy and said so, but he was always bitching and saying he doubted I could do the job. He couldn't cite anything specific though because the fact was my work was sufficient enough. I only got positive feedback from customers and improved their moods too. Meanwhile the INFp there, who I otherwise liked working with well enough, would leave these horrible messes everywhere in the workplace for customers to see while her dual acted as if she could do no wrong. Then I had to clean up and create a little So pleasantness so I wasn't feeling too bad in my body to work. He is the only person who ever fired me and he stated no reason, making the INFP do it for him. His general department reminded me of a 3rd world gangster.
Naturally I choose Activity relation over Illusionary.

I tend to agree with descriptions of Identical being a fruitful relationship only when there is some kind of shared interest or mentoring relationship.
Is it more "comfortable" than Mirror? Sure. It might even work better for certain types. But for friendship and especially romantic relationships, Mirror is clearly better. You need someone who different enough from you so things stay interesting.
IME: Activity is usually the best kind of relation in short time frame.
Illusion might work for much longer time scale. If it gets settled good enough...

I would go as far as to say that identity is better than activation, from my personal experience with real human beings.
As for the question in the thread (based on my experience)
Illusionary works best when the relationship isn't romantic, because I have a hard time adapting to aggressors. But I can form long lasting relationships with SLEs without any issues.
Activation is fine, though activation relationships never tend to last since we're both introverts, I guess neither of us leave the house ever.
If I had to pick a romantic partner between activation and illusionary, I would probably choose to stay single. If it's a friend kind of thing, I would pick illusionary. If a coworker/boss, I would pick activation. I think each ITR can be enjoyed in specific situations. I should think more about this...
