Default Alpha Music Thread

Don't know if we already did this, but, post songs you come across that are particularly of an alpha vibe.

the second link reminds me of the kind of music my INFj friend would like. i don't know what you mean by alpha vibes, as in relating to the lyrics? or what mood the song puts you in? or what kinda songs engage our alpha functions the most?

but this engages my , i think. maybe even more.

http://profile.imeem.com/CnmDq/music...ed_by_a_freak/

your first link i'm pretty sure hit my Ti and Fe. very basic and to the point lyrics and cheery-like. am i explaining this right?

maybe this will tickle alpha's fancy:

Neither of them personally float my boat. Especially the first.

What do you mean, when you say the second sounds like something your INFj friend would like.

me and her exchange music a lot, and she sends me a lot of this j-pop stuff. just saying the link reminds me of the kind of music she is interested in.

anyway, i think this will be more to your liking, and maybe to alpha's liking too:

my INFj friend sent me that ^

The song doesn't do anything for me - my taste is very specific.

But it does seem alpha at least, maybe.

i see. so what would be the epitome of alpha music? were the links you provided from your specific tastes or were they meant to make everybody in the alpha quadra relate to the vibes it gives?

i've got another one. i'll stop posting music after this.

Do any Alphas like trip-hop?

This Portishead song really does something for me. Sometimes I listen to it for hours. I like the sound of a desperate visionary. Probably more Gamma though.

I'm also currently into stuff like this:

Yes, I am not sure what we mean here either. It's not terribly helpful to post a bunch of videos without really discussing their qualities.

So why do you like Portishead? I have a lot of rarities which I would offer to you except I don't think that's possible.

just that dreamy mellow haunting feel their music has... plus her voice goes perfect with the music. Not sure if I can explain it without referencing drug highs it's actually kind of weird next to the rest of the music I like which tends to be very... well... I can't explain that either Uppy??? I have a fairly wide musical taste but it's all got... something... in common... lol maybe somebody who's read through the two hundred different songs I've posted to the current music thread can come up with some words to describe what I like.

anyways... so far all I can tell about this alpha music thing is theres a certain vague childishness theme going (which does make sense for alpha) and pretty much everything posted so far is stuff I like (even if I've never heard it before)

Mmhm.

I would definitely be a slightly sadder version of this child, though. Think Sigur Ros or Mum, two Icelandic bands They are full of wonder but they are held back by everything that makes them sad. I think I subconsciously look for this quality.

I was recently looking at my Itunes list of top 25 most played songs. Probably 22 of them are down-tempo. I do listen to more up-tempo songs at times, but even with those, I notice that there is a hint of melancholy. An edginess in the vocal quality or a dissonance in the chordal structure or an indefinable quality in the rhythmic patterns. I cannot seem to escape it.

Perhaps what we mean by "Alpha music" is not "what Alphas listen to" but "what Alphas would listen to if they were not beholden to mood.

i like trip hop

when i think of alpha i think about a mental creativity first, maybe because I am NT, then light emotional atmosphere and mood second.

I tend to think of arpeggios and electronic loops and other things where structure is quite obvious, even if it's not pleasant. In fact I think I am more attracted to dissonance and other "abnormality" like discordant string instruments.

I think it can resemble "beta" music except beta is more "dramatic"

"the end"

Here is a question inspired by what Ms. Kensington said then: How do the various functions of Alpha Quadra manifest themselves in music (both a singular functions as well as in combination with each other)?

: pure emotionality, exaggeration (in Alpha music it's about maintaining a more or less consistent positive mood, in Beta music it's more about mood swings (think Bohemian Rhapsody))
: consonance, slow tempo, acoustic instruments
: unconventional instrumentation/beats/whatever
: nonsensical/cryptic lyrics, regular structure, repetition

I noticed the Ti connection with nonsensical lyrics after looking at this.

Another thing: as oppose to Ti lyrics, Fi lyrics are often more wordy and more obvious.

(I think Rick is right to type David Byrne INTj ).

Talking Heads - Electric Guitar

Electric guitar gets run over by a car on the highway
This is a crime against the state
This is the meaning of life.

To tune this electric guitar

An electric guitar is brought in to a court of law
The judge and the jury (twelve members of the jury)
All listening to records
This is a crime against the state
This is the verdict they reach:

Never listen to electric guitar

Electric guitar is copies, the copy sounds better
Call this the law of justice, call this freedom and liberty
I thought I perjure myself, right in front of the jury!
Is this a crime against the state? no!
This is the verdict they reach:

Someone controls electric guitar.
Talking Heads - Cities

Think of London, a small city

It's dark, dark in the daytime
The people sleep, sleep in the daytime
If they want to, if they want to

CHORUS

I'm checking them out
I'm checking them out
I got it figured out
I got it figured out
There's good points and bad points
But it all works out
I'm a little freaked out
Find a city
Find myself a city to live in.

There are a lot of rich people in Birmingham
A lot of ghosts in a lot of houses
Look over there!...A dry ice factory
A good place to get some thinking done

Down el Paso way things get pretty spread out
People got no idea where in the world they are
They go up north and come back south
Still got no idea where in the world they are.

Did I forget to mention, to mention Memphis
Home of Elvis and the ancient greeks
Do I smell? I smell home cooking
It's only the river, it's only the river
In the video he repeats 'I got it figured out' to the point of hysteria - it's incorporated into the rhythm. You get a sense that it is pointing to the next part of the song. The song seems like a confused messed, but with the repetitive elements linking it all together (it's very cool anyway ).

We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...

Yet even then, we ran like the wind,
Whilst our laughter echoed,
Under cerulean skies...
