No I get that bit. Other mammals, herbivore, carnivore, and omnivores alike all do the same in temperate habitats.
I just wonder how this man could have packed on the amount of calories needed to have a fat storage like that. I'm guessing they ran upwards of 4000 - 6500 per day including the amount for survival to have a gut and body fat percentage like him during his strenuous life. This image must show a prosperous man for his time.
don't forget how short they lived and that they used all of their body hair to keep warm. @Sol we don't need that much body hair anymore and thus a lot of it has been adopted OUTThis means I will be shaving

It's the picture of neanderthal. They could eat a lot of meat/fat by hunting on herds of animals. For example, it was possible to kill several big animals at once by using driving hunt with traps like pit, swamp, high precipice. During season migrations of animals this could be easier.
