Default The dimensions from the LIFE questionnaire

First in series of quizzes I took because I couldn't sleep.

I should really get out more according to this. I wonder how I would have scored if I cooked or did the shopping myself.

    http://www.utpsyc.org/LIFE/

    Dimension 1: Suburbanite
People high on the suburbanite dimension tend to live a more conventional lifestyle. Their home is their castle. They like to cook, do yardwork, and keep things clean and organized. Suburbanites like their cars, SUVs, and pickups. Young suburbanites watch MTV and listen to the occasional heavy metal. Those who are a little older tend to watch ESPN and listen to country music. The suburbanites also are somewhat more family oriented, conservative, and healthy in their daily behaviors.

Your score on the Suburbanite dimension (which ranges from 0 to 13) is: 4. By most estimates, you would be considered LOW on this dimension. You live an unconventional life that might be best suited for the middle of a big city or perhaps in the middle of a deserted prairie, on a mountaintop, or floating peacefully on your boat in the middle of the ocean.

    Dimension 2: Cultured
People high on the cultured dimension tend to get involved with all parts of life in order to better themselves and those around them. They often go to museums, do volunteer work, organize study groups and do a lot of writing-- whether it's letters to friends, personal journals, or short stories. Although they love to read, most would not be considered shy. Their musical tastes can be quite broad -- ranging from jazz and classical to hiphop. People high in Culture also like time to themselves. They also have an unhealthy appreciation of Macintosh computers.

Your score on the Cultured dimension (which ranges from 0 to 13) is: 5. Overall, you are fairly MODERATE on this dimension. You aren't taking your yoga classes too seriously -- that's probably good.

    Dimension 3: Slacker
People high on the slacker dimension tend to spend a lot of their time on their computer. They download music, chat, and play computer games at high rates. They like to play other games as well -- pool, poker, and occasional board games. Parts of their lifestyle are unhealthy -- lots of TV, fast food, smoking, drinking, and just staring into space. They also have a slight hostile streak -- with a higher than usual rate of arguments with friends.

Your score on the Slacker dimension (which ranges from 0 to 13) is: 6. Good news. You are MODERATE on this dimension. You enjoy your time with computers and games but probably aren't obsessed with them. You like living on the edge occasionally but have an appreciation of a healthy lifestyle.

    Dimension 4: Preppie
People high on the preppie dimension are concerned with how they are seen by others. It is important that they look good to others. They spendPreppies also seek structure in their lives. They make to-do lists, like their home and workspace clean and organized. They watch Oprah, Desperate Housewives, and reality dating shows on TV. Their music preferences are for pop and soundtracks. Women tend to score higher on this dimension than men. Not surprisingly, they rate themselves as agreeable, reliable workers, and not lazy.

Your score on the Preppie dimension (which ranges from 0 to 12) is: 1. You are relatively LOW on this dimension. This often reflects the fact that you are relatively happy with your appearance and the ways others see you. You might have some tendencies to slob-like behavior. Hey, it never hurts to clean your room occasionally.

The dimensions from the LIFE questionnaire were derived from the factor analysis of over a thousand individuals -- mostly college students living in the United States. The dimensions are reliable over time and are weakly linked to other personality markers. This work suggests that we can think of personality as behavioral habits that are not closely tied to the ways people view themselves. Much of the work on the LIFE questionnaire was first studied by Kate Niederhoffer as part of her dissertation at the University of Texas at Austin. If you would like to know more, contact James W. Pennebaker.

Your responses suggest several things about you. Overall, there are four major dimensions to people's daily behaviors:

    Dimension 1: Suburbanite
People high on the suburbanite dimension tend to live a more conventional lifestyle. Their home is their castle. They like to cook, do yardwork, and keep things clean and organized. Suburbanites like their cars, SUVs, and pickups. Young suburbanites watch MTV and listen to the occasional heavy metal. Those who are a little older tend to watch ESPN and listen to country music. The suburbanites also are somewhat more family oriented, conservative, and healthy in their daily behaviors.
Your score on the Suburbanite dimension (which ranges from 0 to 13) is: 8. By most estimates, you would be considered MODERATE on this dimension -- neither too suburban but not too unconventional.

Dimension 4: Preppie

Your score on the Preppie dimension (which ranges from 0 to 12) is: 5. You scored in the MODERATE range on this dimension. You aren't obsessed with your appearance but aren't a complete slob either.

Keep up the good work. This computer program thinks you have a generally healthy approach to much of your life.

You appear to relate to human beings more than to computers. You may even have a strong spiritual side to you. In your heart, you know that drinking or smoking to excess is a bad idea.

How is this a real quiz? It comes off like a university doing data mining to me. Is it really hard to tell what kind of lifestyle you are or what you think of your religious beliefs in these simple terms? There are even more lifestyles and religious beliefs than on these two quizzes. Plus, if they already know the answers on them, like "these things correlate as a package!" why are they even asking about them?

I liked the questions because they were solid things I can't deceive myself about or get confused over. Tho they still aren't fool proof, like yesterday was my weekly cleaning day which I'm sure affected my Preppie score.

I scored as moderate on everything besides Cultured, where I scored high. Slightly higher than the median on Suburbanite and Slacker, slightly lower than it on Preppie.

    Suburbanite: 8
    Cultured: 10
    Slacker: 8
    Preppie: 6

Look at Adams results. Healthy lifestyles are normal lifestyles. The two terms are synonymous in everyday usage.

It would be nice to have an adult version of this questionnaire.

I think it's mainly intended for adults? A good number of the questions aren't things anyone under the age of 18 would be regularly doing.

You get scores running Mac. That's fifthly? truly cultured person programs his/her own operating system using assembly.
Anyways It's been over 10 years of ~100 % personal Linux usage. I refuse to answer to such uncultured questionnaire.

    OK

    Suburbanite: 4 low
    Cultured: 6 moderate
    Slacker: 4 low
    Preppie: 3 low

Weirdo. Hard to agree. I'm a slacker who does not consume alcohol (smells just terrifying) for example.

    Hah. It was a joke.

Median for this questionnaire is targeted for young adults. Adults in my age range have a significantly different median for these dimensions.

People on farms: Y'all are crazy according to this questionnaire. But that wasn't even my point. Anyways, healthy and normal aren't necessarily synonymous. Ask an athlete about dietary choices and habits. Or ask someone what range their IQ is and see if they think "normal" is good enough. Or their income. Normality is vertical. Being barred from normality is subnormal, but if you can get to it easily but don't want to you're above it. "Cultured" would probably be above normal if you don't see it as pretentious, but this quiz is targeting a specific demographic to begin with (you said it yourself).

    That is a juvenile response.

The terms are synonymous. You wishing them to be different does not change that fact.

Words mean what people think they mean, and what people think they mean is based on context. Words are not these abstract things sitting in the dictionary with absolute meanings. If a normal diet is not a healthy diet for an athlete, the terms are not synonymous in that case. Now you just need to prove that people living in the suburbs are healthy while people living on farms, in big cities, in shacks in the mountains, or in giant mansions on private islands aren't.

Wyrd. The terms are synonymous. This is the colloquial usage of the terms. The terms do not bend based upon your desires. The world does not bend based upon your desires. It is not the world's responsibility to adapt to the ideas and viewpoints of Wyrd. You need to stop your disrespectful behavior and learn to engage in respectful discourse.

They aren't quizzes. They are questionnaires. This one is more like a quiz, here. I said I was taking quizzes when I couldn't sleep and these were only a few. I did put questionnaire in the title.

Yeah it was pretty straightforward. Yet I still found a way to confuse myself on it. lol It asked if I bought groceries and several other domestic tasks like cooking a meal at home. I buy food here but I don't always cook it. I have someone do my yard work and stuff like that. I will pay for it if a friend doesn't help out but I am not going to do it myself even though I own a house. I never enjoyed yard work but some people do. My mom loved it. I have some friends who help me out with repairs and things I don't know how to do.

I do have my brother clean my house because I am the one paying for him to live here so most of the domestic stuff I answered that I had not done it in the past month. My house is clean. I keep my own room clean but I let him vacuum it. I don't make my bed perfectly every day but I straighten it to look fine to anyone walking in the room. I am not a slob but I do not put things back in their place immediately like some people. I am not the one vacuuming, cooking, shopping... because he lives here for free. I'm not his mother so he has to help. The questionnaire didn't let me specify.

I still think it showed me something about myself.

Of course words don't bend based on my desires. Words are mere sound and smoke, dimming the heavenly light. Does smoke need to bend at all? It is not the world's responsibility to adapt, but it will anyways, because the world has already decided that whatever doesn't adapt, perishes, but I haven't decided that for myself. Whatever responsibility means, it can't mean near as much as life.

Write that you are anti-establishment, anti-status quo, and a cynic in your signature. It will save both yourself and others from you injecting such into each conversation you enter.

Your score on the Suburbanite dimension (which ranges from 0 to 13) is: 3.

You aren't taking your yoga classes too seriously -- that's probably good.Dimension 3: Slacker

You like living on the edge occasionally but have an appreciation of a healthy lifestyle.Dimension 4: Preppie

Your score on the Preppie dimension (which ranges from 0 to 12) is: 4. You are relatively LOW on this dimension. This often reflects the fact that you are relatively happy with your appearance and the ways others see you. You might have some tendencies to slob-like behavior. Hey, it never hurts to clean your room occasionally.
