yeh theanine is pretty good stuff. i sometimes stick a little in my coffee, i'm more like 100mg caffeine, 50mg theanine rather than the other way around though

it's more subtle at that kind of dosage. although you need something like:

in order to easily get low dose.

Partly genetic and partly environmental. The genetic aspect is basically the speed of one's metabolism and the environmental aspect is whether one has a food addiction or not. A slow metabolism combined with a strong food addiction is basically a recipe for obesity. If one is young and has a fast metabolism then they'll likely remain skinny even if they eat fast foods daily, but it will catch up to them when they're middle aged. An individual's metabolism and food addiction can both vary of course from mild to severe. If you have a normal metabolism or slower then it would be wise to exercise at least moderately to maintain or lose your weight and having a good healthy diet is good for anyone even with a fast metabolism. Just because you look skinny on the outside doesn't mean you're healthy on the inside.

The other question is what exactly is considered "fat". Morbidly obese, well, is fairly clear cut, but short of that, "fatness" is something that is often defined societally, and even on an individual basis.

One person might find someone fat if there's no gap between their legs, another person might find someone too skinny once the gap is showing. To some extent it's a subjective thing The BMI definition of obesity (BMI 30) is purely a statistical construct set forth by medical insurance companies based on where CV and diabetes prevalence starts increasing.

I agree with hitta that the many contradicting opinions on weight loss, as well as "ideals" on looks (which is set forth by the dominant culture in a society), that are often unattainable for many people depending on what one's body's physiology is, is contributing to making the general public neurotic about this. This further compounds the obesity problem, and also makes some people give up and just relegate themselves to an unhealthy lifestyle, because "nothing works", when in reality they've just totally overwhelmed themselves with some unrealistic goal with nonsustainable ways to go about it.

I truly think that the solution to this is to put the focus away from a certain weight or BMI being beautiful or ugly, and changing the perspective to trying to make one's body as healthy as it can be, because what looks beautiful is actually health (and CONFIDENCE!), not the degree to which one is skinny (or fat).
