I don't see anything particularly "trite" about that comment. He perhaps reacted in a way you expected him to react, by underlining personal relations, which (going solely on what I've read of your posts, which isn't much) you seem to equate with Beta (and apparently adolescent behavior) or at least with extroverted feeling. There's nothing inherently trite about that. Predictible perhaps, on his part, certainly understandable, but not trite.
I don't think Beta is inclined to act more adolescent than, say, Alpha. But then, I haven't met the teenagers you have. I don't know what undesirable traits you are attributing to pubescents.
