These answers are wrong. Roses are part of the order Rosales, which evolved 35 to 70 million years ago, which means dinosaurs probably liked stopping to smell the roses too. As a very old flowering plant, roses have many more primordial traits than, say daffodils, but less than Magnolia grandiflora, the type species of all flowering plants.
