having seen a couple more episodes, i'm convinced my initial hunch was correct.

what sealed the deal was their relationship with their beta mom who they see as the devil, and charlie's stalker (obvs ENFp) who while being a nuisance doesn't seem to bother charlie much. he even seeks her advice sometimes.

considering how i typed them ENFp and ISTp, uh, yeah. they do get into petty fights but they're almost always receptive to each other's advice and don't have communication problems (i.e. they don't take each other's statements out of context, misconstrue each others' intentions etc) as I would expect people from opposing quadras do. for instance, they almost always do that with their mom and vice versa. duality doesn't mean the relationship is exempt from any conflict whatsoever.
From what I remember, Alan seemed more like a neurotic INFj. Ennegram 1w9 or something.

well fine they dont have to be from opposing quadras... but their relationship just doesn't seem as comfortable as i would think duality would be. They can be activity partners and still have that mutual understanding.
