Default How the World Poltiical State is Settling

It appears the dramatic shifts of the past 30 years are nearing their end, with a period of indefinite calm on the horizon.

The gay rights movement appears to be poised on a seesaw: the gains obtained over the past several years have little institutional support, and are subject to repeated oscillation with the passing fortunes of elected leaders. Continued economic instability, coupled with the driving force of this instability, the capriciousness of democratic electorates, is resulting in a null-sum game between conservative and liberal parties. This because the electorate is not making judgments based on values, but on circumstances.

The problem with modern electorates can be summed up in the sentiments of aixelsid: the thing which must be confronted is not obstacles to better living, but potential threats to survival. What this kind of thinking entails is a belief that peace is the priority, and any and all sacrifices must be made to save that peace. This requires "deals with the devil", which are not truly loathesome so much as simple matters of practicality. While there is, statistically, a canceling vote on the center left against aixelsid, it is like not to be exercised out of antipathy and protest against the corruption of political bargaining.

The only real solution is to deny aixelsid a vote, on grounds that he will misuse it. But this has its own difficulties.

The ACA will probably be pronounced dead this week. This is quite the rationalizing court, on par with the activism of the Warren court of the 60s and 70s, but in reverse. While the truth will be that the overturning of ACA is legally indefensible, it is difficult in our polarized society.to obtain the kind of unified judgment against the court that historians of the past might have obtained. Or perhaps it will be obtained, but we'll only hear about the opinion of the Hitta in the group in the media.

I do expect to hear a lot of flowery language used to disguise the simple fact that the court has broken the law. The U.S. code is quite clear on what a tax is, and if the mandate is not found to be a tax, that's a violation of the constitution, which stipulates that definitions offered by congress in the code must be observed. I will be taking some time to email each Justice who concurs with the opinion with a one sentence letter: "You are a criminal".

Another sign of weakness in our political systems is an increasing initiative to defeatism in the left wing. Democratic Underground has become rife with it, so much so that if it went offline tomorrow and never went back up, I would be a very happy camper. As a meeting place for the American left, Democratic Underground is in gradual decline. However it is hobbled by a lack of grass-roots initiative on the part of Democrats in general. I already wrote about what happened in Egypt and the disaster that is evolving there. People tend to think democracy is a magic bromide for society's ills, but democracy is not: social justice is.

I see all over the globe a left-wing that is ashamed of its own history, a left wing that goes to the streets and accomplishes great feats of form, but nothing of substance. It thinks it's accomplishing something, but it's actually a mouse playing in a cat's cage. The recent acts against employee unions, on both the state level and the national level (by the Supreme Court) are meant not only to weaken unions, but to prevent the message of social justice from getting out. With the message stifled, the next phase is to obtain control of independent media outlets with a reputation for centrism. CNN is a key example of how to do this. These two initiatives are key to turning blue states red. The other key is the strategy of divide and conquer, which the Right doesn't really have to do these days because the Left is content to cannibalize itself: self-interest has taken root in the left-wing as increasingly there are bids to exploit protest slogans, and through the alliance of the exploiters with the aforementioned media powers the conflict preventers, in all their pathetic initiative to appease, have come out on top, while the more effective, tougher voices are at the bottom. Nowhere is this more apparent than Democratic Underground, which now uses a jury system to censor voices calling for harder, tougher measures against the 1%. The Greeks should be burning the mansions of the tax evaders and austerity pillagers who have decimated their livelihoods, but you don't see anyone calling for that on any of the places where these calls might get attention. Not that they aren't being made: they are simply being censored.

With the Left wing divided against itself and the Right fighting a cultural wave to sustain their values against increasing cultural derision and revulsion, the scenario is a perfect storm against the forces of social justice in which attempted reforms fail and ground is gradually lost. The unions are nearly dead, the rich so powerful that there is meaning to the term "you'll never work in this town again", and the distance between the rich and the non-rich so great that there is no effective communication by the rich to the poor, nor even sympathy. This is leading us to the collapse of the Progressive Era, and desolation of alpha Si in the name of rouge gamma Se.

    Aixelsid is a girl.

Also, what do you mean by Alpha Si being associated with left wing socialism, or do you mean that?

Well Left Wing socialism is primarily about alpha Si in the United States. This because the doctrine of freedom, enshrined in the constitution, creates an obsession with personal liberty in social conservatives, even at the expense of justice. This leaves the more decent social conservatives' hands practically tied when dealing with con artists: they feel they can't intercede because it is the right of people to be naive with their property.

Okay, so... what is Alpha Si about left wing socialism in the united states?

Aren't "social" conservatives conservative socially, meaning that they wish to limit the expansion of personal freedoms usually pertaining to sexual and religious practices? I've heard of socially conservative democrats (in the south mostly) who wish to limit the expansion of these freedoms and also advocate some sort of welfare state socialism. It is a sort of false distinction, because these "social" freedoms exist in an economic context. I guess you could conceptualize it as a quality vs. quantity issue where the conservatives want to limit certain activities based on their quality and liberals want to limit the quantity of wealth a person can have. Then again, this is merely horse-shit rhetoric anyway.

Don't confuse paleoism/traditionalism/cultural conservatism with social conservatism. The difference between the two is the difference between liking GWB and disliking him.

The Supreme Court ruled against Arizona. This isn't surprising because Anthony Kennedy, the swing vote, is a right leaning communitarian, and if there is anything which spooks right leaning reformers, it's racism. Kennedy made a point of daring racist cops to push the envelope a little further, leaving room for a repeal of the rest of the statute (which all but makes racial profiling a tool of law enforcement) later.

But what really matters is the ACA rule. Arizona overreached in many ways, and the court upheld its duty of defending the primacy of the federal government, but the court must do its duty every time, not just some of the time.

Once, not including when I have a runny nose and suck the mucus back through my nasal cavities, down my throat. I try not to, but it's unavoidable sometimes.

I heard of the practice when I was a child and decided to give it a try since I picked my nose anyway and I could see the practical benefit of not having to decide where to wipe it. but the flavor made me decide it just wasn't for me.

ACA is upheld. Kennedy succumbed to his anxiety after all... it was Roberts, the institutionalist and Kennedy's chief adversary, who stepped in to save the court. However, it could be that he just accepted the logic of the situation: the mandate is a tax.

So, barring an (impossible) electoral upset this November, everyone will have health insurance by sometime in 2014. (or just about everyone)

The ruling is a major win for psychologists, who can now afford to treat many more people. This will result in a healthier society.

Thinking about it, Kennedy's ruling may simply reflect his personal preferences: the law is not a legal application of the Commerce clause (apparently due to very narrow U.S. Code definitions of commerce), however that means it's simply not supported by the clause. Kennedy took this to mean that the commerce clause invalidated the law, believing (unconsciously) that all IEs should be considered interconnected and interdependent, regardless of artificial boundaries stipulated by Ti. This is common communitarian ethos.

Some people make the mistake of thinking of the court as an independent arbiter. It is, but its rulings are not intended to be arbitrary. The congress can pass bills changing legal definitions, which bind the courts to very specific rulings. Academics have opinions about these definitions and the justices ultimately feel accountable to their consensus. Common sense also plays a role, of course. However the main question justices ask is whether the lawmakers have done their homework; i.e. did they pass a law that breaks other laws, without specifically repealing those laws. contradictory laws may be tossed out because they render the court unable to determine legal truths if they are passed; this is why the ACA is so huge, so that it is perfectly compatible with existing law.

    Nope.

OK it's looking like there is gonna be some spat, possibly, on a state-by-state level over the actual implementation of this program. See http://usnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/20...on-anyway?lite . So that means I'm gonna have to take up the cross against McDonnell, because he's the most vocal critic of the medicaid expansion. He doesn't intend to raise taxes to cover it and he doesn't intend to accept federal funds for it, meaning poor people in VA, the people who need help the most, will remain uninsured because the states have the option of offering their residents aid or not. He's making war on the poor.

This could be a good motif: "Sheriff of Richmond" (as in "Nottingham").

Last night, the martians did exactly as predicted and took the pie from the window-sill. The pie was a scrumptious mix of blueberry and rubarb, the contents having been determined by the great fruit council of '06. What nobody, including the martians, expected was that I had secretly stuck my boogers in the pie before it was baked. The window-sill commision is up in arms, but they've been in the pockets of the Alpha socialists for years, and I'm guessing with a high degree of certainty that the hu-blah will die down in a few days. The question now is did the martians greedily scarf the pie or did they pawn it off to the right-wing communtarians? If they ate the pie, then nobody will be harmed but them. However, if they secretly sold the pie to the communitarians, then the communitarians will put the pie into the elemental matrix, thinking to gain some short term advantages in the upcoming presidential election. Unfortunately for them, and the rest of us, boogers are not subject to any one information element and will create a hole in the space-time continuum, sucking Earth into an infinite time vortex, which will asymptotically approach a point of zero-dimension, thus dooming us all.
