    Default Anno 2070

Just bought this game off Steam, it seems pretty cool, its a supply chain RTS -- anyone heard of it?

Here is a gameplay video (in german)

    There are three factions

Tycoons like to exploit resources quickly for immediate use, which leads to workers that are richer and can pay more taxes. The economy of a Tycoon player accelerates early game and declines gradually near end game as their non-renewable resources run out (Tech's technologies can mitigate this setback however). In turn, Tycoons decrease the Eco Balance and affect the environment negatively. Tycoons rely on Coal and Nuclear plants for power, and their citizens enjoy Hamburgers and Wine, and spend time at the Casino. Tycoons citizens are not worried of negative eco balance as much as their Eco counterparts, but they can't gain benefits from positive eco balance. The maximum amount eco balance a Tycoon player get is 0. To increase eco balance, Tycoons can build, for example, CO2 reservoirs and waste compactors.

Ecos rely on wind and solar power, and their citizens enjoy drinking tea, eating health food and listening to orchestral music to be satisfied. Ecos are affected by negative eco balance more than Tycoons, but they can also benefit from positive eco balance. To increase eco balance, Ecos use ozone generators and weather changing station.

They designed the Ark and E.V.E. (the player's in-game advisor), as well as building plans for aircraft and missles. Tech is the only faction that can live and work underwater on submerged plateaus. Farming algae and mining diamonds are a few things they can do underwater. Tech can research hydroelectric dams for energy and utilize marine current power plant underwater. Their people are scientists and like to study in research buildings. To advance to higher levels, their citizens need algae processed food from underwater cities, and they like to drink energy drinks (made from coffee and sugar).

I guess it's more about economy than war?

Yea it is focused on economy, the campaign itself will have different objectives based around building up your economy/civilization.

My husband has been playing this game for the past couple of evenings and keeps mentioning how good it is. The only problem is the land and buildings aren't appearing underwater clearly - all that one can see is blurriness.

I know it's predecessors, they were fun to play. I haven't checked the newest one yet, maybe later when I get a new PC and if there's a discount. It's one of the most successful german game series as far as I know.

Anyone into this, it seems pretty cool from what I've played, there are different missions and a campaign which are pretty fun. For example in one mission you have to develop an economy purely through trade, you'll have particular resources on your island which you mine a surplus of and use to trade for resources you need. The economics are a lot more challenging than a typical strategy game as well, usually in SC you mine minerals and gas, and with some titles you will have to mine four resources like food, timber, stone, and metal. In this game there are four tiers of resources, in order to get access to higher tier resources you have to mine lower tier resources. For example to build military buildings and structures you need munitions, but you have to create these from iron at a munitions factory, which you have to create iron at an iron smelter which requires coal and iron ore from mines. In trading, you may only have coal at your island and need to trade excess coal for iron, without trading too much or else you won't have a stable economy. Btw munitions is only a second tier resource.

Citizens also come in tiers and in order to level up they must have certain needs satisfied. For example to go from town residents to a bigger city you have to satisfy people's need for activity and information, which is done through production of certain products and the construction of a TV station of sorts. It's all funny the differences between the factions. Tycoon require plastic products, casinos, alcohol, fast food chains, and their TV station is named "The Ministry of Truth" -- typical american neo-con republican feel. Ecos require communications (like cellphones etc) instead of plastic, concert halls instead of casinos, tea instead of alcohol, health food (sushi) instead of fast food, and their TV station is an "Educational Network" -- typical green liberal feel. Techs (the science like faction), requires energy drinks, laboratories (instead of casinos or concert halls), and other products. As citizens from any nation level up their diet becomes more complex so to fully satisfy them at later levels you have to build a series of food and drink products into your economy, as ecos level up to a point where their cities start to become more Big city looking with skyscrapers and high rises, instead of just needing health food and basic fish, they require pasta and instead of just requiring tea they require bio drinks.
