I've been thinking about this, I know it's a generalisation to say which type is more maternal but which type on the whole do you think is more maternal, the EIE or the SEE?

No, I don't think it's type related either. I don't have any feelings to reproduce. I suppose I have strong negative feelings about the world around me; I wouldn't want to bring anyone into this mess. Maybe if it improved just a little, but that won't happen anytime soon.
EIE tritype 5w4, 4w5, 9w1
As far as we can discern, the sole purpose of human existence is to kindle a light in the darkness of mere being.

Depends on what you mean by maternal. Any type can be maternal in the most important sense, i.e., love (whatever that word means) and self-sacrifice for children. In that sense any type can be paternal as well. But if you mean stereotypically maternal, I'd go ESE > EIE, because in my head, the stereotypical mom is an ESE E2w1 who cooks for her kids (Si) and says soothing words when they get a boo boo (Fe). Obviously that's a massive oversimplification, but you get the idea of where I'm going. Also, I know an ESE that's so maternal that her friends (who are the same age as her) refer to her as Mama [her last name]. The funny part? She takes it as a compliment. lol. She's cool people though. Also, Se-demonstrative (Se that "leaks out" as it was said in another thread) is something I associate with the typical pushy mom who just assumes she has the right to shape her children's lives because she knows best.
Not a rule, just a trend.
IEI. Probably Fe subtype. Pretty sure I'm E4, sexual instinctual type, fairly confident that I'm a 3 wing now, so: IEI-Fe E4w3 sx/so. Considering 3w4 now, but pretty sure that 4 fits the best.
Yes 'a ma'am that's pretty music...
I am grateful for the mystery of the soul, because without it, there could be no contemplation, except of the mysteries of divinity, which are far more dangerous to get wrong.
True. That's why I said it was stereotypical. Unless you mean the love for the child bit, and that I a) intentionally left vague, and b) take on faith anyway.
EDIT: also, don't be sorry. if what I said was bs and I didn't realize it, then it would be better for me to know than not know, right?

I thought my IEE mom did a good job. she wasn't always what I needed, but very attentive (sometimes too much so). HER mom was the stereotypical ESE so she learned a lot from her. Her sister (my aunt) is EIE and imo didn't do as good of a job as a mom as my own mom. Which is interesting given the fact that she's in my quadra. I really like my aunt but she's too demanding, angry and intimidating. Of course part of that could be because she's married to her supervisor. That can't be easy.
IEI-Fe 4w3
Well I would say that EIEs are more stereotypically paternal than maternal: they tend to sort of have things "under control," . I feel like a good example of the EIE's role in family from nature would be a male lion: they may or may not do a lot of the family's leg work, but their main role is to be there to sort of puff their chest out and have bravado if anyone tries to fuck with the family or if they need some posturing to deal with other prides.
I've noticed that EIE mothers tend to be kind of haphazard; a lot of times they will try to slip into the typical mother role, but it's typically very stressful for them and they really just don't have the natural warmth or attentiveness to be that stereotypical American stay-at-home mom. Not saying they aren't good mothers, but these are some of the typical downfalls that I see that make me lean away from the stereotype applying to them.
I feel like SEEs could go either way. They probably aren't stereotypically "maternal," the cultural image of which I tend to think is more Si-derived, but they are generally VERY loyal and family-oriented, and can be very attentive, so I would say they are more naturally maternal than EIEs. Can't think of a great example from the animal kingdom for this one.
But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...
Yet even then, we ran like the wind,
Whilst our laughter echoed,
Under cerulean skies...
Gender may have a effect.

surprisingly, not type related, IME.

SEE being sensors probably provide better for their children per se. But watch out for what I call the "disloyalty complex" amongst SEEs!
I remember that there are statistics about this.
I once visited a website that Tutururuttu had in his signature, a socionist had done some investigation about the number of children that a type had.
Pretty strange results. LII had the biggest family if I recall right.
I do remember that none of the usual stereotypes that one would have expected was true.
