    Ok i have resurrected this thread up from the grave.

    I followed my original idea and did a Bartending course this week. I have never worked in retail or anything like that so i came into the course totally new. I fell asleep at around 2-3am every night this week so this morning i felt like a total sleep deprived zombie. I just couldn't sleep because i was learning far too much and i keep thinking and thinking about everything, also i was probablly a little stressed. ?

    Characters i met on the course:

    ESFp teacher - She was excellent. Very confident and practical, she knew her stuff and had worked as many managers in the industry. She was fun loving aswell but moved very fast(too fast for some people). Overall i couldn't imagine a person more suited to teaching the course.

    ESTp student - I picked up that this guy was confident the first time i saw him. I didn't see any self doubt in him at all, the way he walked etc. By the end we ended up getting on quite well together. Yesterday he asked "Who wants to make cocktails with the master?" and i volunteered. I noticed that when it comes to learning we seemed to have very comparable skills. We both picked it up quite quickly but he was better with his hands - He wants to do a flaring course and im sure he would be good at it.

    ISTp girl - First day i saw her and thought she was cute. Second day i thought hmm she doesn't talk much and i looked at her and realised instantly she was an ISTp. She calmly did everything in her ISTp way. I was hoping she was coming for after drinks but she didn't show.. Damn

    Whenever i did anything practical i was quite nervous. Making cocktails i would just freeze up lol. Second time around i was far more confident and by the end i ended up nailing it all. From day one i used my ENFp skills and made friends with practically all 20 people. Having people on your side can be a massive advantage

    In Ending, it seems ESFp and ESTp's fit into the industry with ease. I think i can also make a good barman but it will take a bit more time. :wink:

    In my bartending experience (18 years ago), the ESTps and ESFps (who did the best schmoozing) were the ones who made the most tips. I couldn't schmooze. I was always my friendly little self, perhaps a bit slower, perhaps asking a couple of times "what was that order again?" but I had customer loyalty. Any stories about me that went around were consistent to my behavior/attitude. Unlike the stories that went around about the ESTp and ESFps who's behavior/attitude changed depending on the customer...sometimes drastically. So customers would share stories and realize that there was a whole lot of lying going on from that end. They still got the most tips though...law of numbers or something like that..hehehe. But they were fun to work with...and watch/listen to.

    Default Job for an ENFp

    I meet often opinions that they could be a great as a psychologist, but I think this job is to boring for ENFps. I see ENFps as a ad designer or as a teacher. What do you think about the best job for ENFps?

    Yeah, somebody please enlighten me on that too. I can tell you what you shouldn't do - don't become an architect. You'll get stuck behind a desk and drown in paperwork. If you do like the building trades, though, consulting of some form can be lucrative. You just have to get into a niche that everybody needs but doesn't have the time to do or learn and then revel in your independence, high paycheck, and absence of legal responsibility. *sigh* It's my dream...

    Money isn't important for me. I wanna be pleased from doing sth what I like, not from money

    What does 'revel in' mean? ;p

    Revel - to take intense pleasure in (something)

    Oh, I didn't mean you should take a job purely for the money. I just meant that consulting uses many enfp strong points and the pay is good as well. You should definitely enjoy what you do.

    What is more important between money and enjoyment??
    Enjoyment. I mean, you spend half of your day at your job. You should definitely find one that makes you happy, or at least one where you like doing whatever it is yer doin.

    But in the situation when you take too little money from job? When you have to decide that you would be rich and not pleased from job or be poor but satisfied? (abstractive, theoretical thinking of ENFps )

    Well, that's when youd have to make a choice about either getting a 'higher paying' job, if you want to make the low paying job you love your identity, or turn your 'ideal job' into a hobby. I admit, it's not an easy position to be in. But the good news is that money only solves some of your problems, and not even the majority at that

    A good job for me would be one that resides well with my values and provides endless variety.

    Being a teacher is ridiculously perfect. I would meet dozens of new people each year, spice up the lessons with my special brand of ENFp pepper, use my socionics knowledge to help each individual student, be understanding, and my dream is to be an inspiring teacher to get these kids to find something to live for. Yes, I want to be the teacher from Dead Poets Society, 'cept the, you know, being fired part.

    I'm also very interested in cooking, because the combinations are endless. It's a satisfying endeavor to create a new food that people love.

    My ambitions used to change every couple of months, but now that I know I value Ne, I'll be sure to find something that has endless variety, so I could be enthused indefinitely.

    ENFps as teachers I am just not so sure about to be honest. I mean I liked the ones I had(not many), I learned quite well from them and they were very enthusiatic and knowledgeable about their subject etc but they sort of assumed that the connections that are easy for them to make were also easy for others to make and looking back I think that this is why a lot of the people in one particular class that I remember really did not enjoy being taught by a particular ENFp teacher and lobbied to have her replaced. Even here the explanations that some ENFps provide often seem really long and lacking focus or direction even when the general content is good and thought provoking if one reads it through. Probably rational types in general are better with teaching in some situations but I guesss it depends on a lot of different factors like subject matter etc.

    I've always thought something like a career counsellor would be a really suitable career ENFps. Anything that allows for meeting new people, independence, travel, flexibility, self-development, networking, teaching and sharing ideas and opinions. Not necessarily all of these, but most of them. Or at least for me.

    And the Psychologists thing - sure I can see that, but I think this focus on ENFps as psychologists comes from that translated website, whatever it is, i forget, and it's possible because ENFps like people and most are interested in psychological issues. I've considered studying to become a psychologists, but I don't think I'd have the patience for it, I don't like to dwell too much on the past and whys, and I don't like people who do. And most psychologists see the same semi-sane patients for years, I can't stand the thought of that.

    I've also considered becoming a teacher, but Megan's right, I'm probably way too scatterbrained for it, I do things according to my own schedule and volition, so it's hard to pace myself to other people. Apparantly once you have your teachers college diploma you can teach anywhere in the world? I think you can do this without, but it sounds interesting. I haven't really looked into this yet. I've also noticed my examples and explanations are really general, and confusing. It's weird. I try to avoid it. But I think ENFps have great potential to be teachers, once they're grounded out. Duals can help.

    Also I wanted to be a nutritionist for a while, because I like the idea of healthy living, and biochemistry is fairly interesting. Or a naturopath. Because I'm a hippie like that. But I think this may be a hobby, and a personal thing, something I don't necessiarily want to provide a service for.

    Or something to do with the environment. I also may take something like Environmental Science in university, or International Development.

    Lately I've been considering becoming an Aid Worker. Mostly because I can travel, for a good cause, and I've already started doing stuff like this anyway, project management and the like.

    Haha - these are all service/community oriented careers. Delta to the max!

    Oh - and evidently I change my mind on this stuff frequently, but I think it's great fun, to explore the different directions I can take.

    PUPIL IN FRONT:
    Oh, sir. Biting the neck.
    HUMPHREY:
    Yes. Good. Nibbling the earlobe, uhh, kneading the buttocks, and so on and so forth. So, we have all these possibilities before we stampede towards the clitoris, Watson.
    WATSON:
    Yes, sir. Sorry, sir.

    Default Career for ENFP ~

    Hello ALL,
    Long time no see and i am back !!

    Sorry to rise a frustrate qs and i have problem on career.
    I just graduate from U this year. I find confuse in choosing/focusing a career. As I want a job that is funny, exciting and meaning/helpful to people. But the reality show me that there is nearly impossible in business city like HK.

    Turn out, i have a IT post (As i study information engineering in U). It is repetitive, and lot of stupid and ineffective details. i feel totally exhaust and think no hope in this job. I quit that job after 2 month. And i find that i have main problem no focusing on a task/ daily process.

    So, how other ENFPs can solve daily route process/ stupid details on your life/ career?? Or just ignore them and find another job ??
    And most important that how u choose yr career ??
    Who am i?

    Haha, I am who i am.

    Life sucks. Welcome to. Maybe work in contractor. Travel round. See new face. See new place. In IT. Make a bob, or two.

    Hey Johnny

    This is EXACTLY where I am right now 0_0 !!!

    If you just replace Hongkong with Copenhagen. Same education! Same interests! Same frustrations! oh yeah and same type

    at the moment I don't have an answer for your situation, but it is cool knowing that somewhere on the other side of the world someone else is in the exact same situation. Ha ha, come to think of it we are both a textbook exapmle of an ENFp who has chosen (or not) the wrong education. Seriously speaking it is a bit crappy but at the same time it's a bit funny. I can't help lolling when I think about it

    This makes me think of a thread I read a week ago: ENFp Profiles (machine translated)
    somewhere it says:
    RECOMMENDED occupation.

    Field:

    * Pedagogy;
    * Art;
    * Journalism;
    * Marital counseling;
    * Dating Service;
    * Imidzhmeykerstvo;
    * Advertising.

    Man, this is so true, even the Imidzhmeykerstvo . Nah, but I can seriously see my self in any of these jobs. Even pedagogy which is something I would never have considered back when I chose my education
    Advertising sounds really exciting to me

    The way I see it we are both lucky. It's not too late. We can still get our income doing things that we would enjoy. Yeah we made one wrong descision. And yeah, we've spent some years finishing that. But on the bright side we both seem to have a clearer view on what we want and what we DO NOT want So now we have an active choice and I think reading this have made up my mind for me. I'm not gonna become a bored out of my mind office worker. I'm gonna see what other options are there

    Keep it real, Johnny

    dattebayo, yeah ~
    The world is small, give u five !!

    I have make the career list too, it seems teacher, social worker or project co-ordinator is suited for me. But the problem is that the job post is suited but the working environment is not suited.

    In HK, most company or organisation either very bureaucracy or very money-minded. The bureau one just like a Mcdonald Franchise System. Very systematic and precise in structure. To work at that kind of company, Only need to get thing done in standard format and do it correct. So follow the standard, do little, wrong little. No creation or feeling is needed. So, the teacher or the social worker here just like the Mcdonald worker been ruled by the system, and not so much space for them to elaborate their own idea.

    For the money-minded one, v.v. aggresive, hard selling and pushing people. Selling and Advertising in every corner. Even in the toilet, there is a LCD screen to force u to see the Advertisment. It is very pushing people. I don't like it.

    For the remain type of company which are not so bureaucracy or so money-minded, it was very small and waiting for kill. So, This is the general view of job enviroment in HK.

    Reality and the people surrounded always tell me that it is time to weak-up and face the reality......-_-". But I want to make change and not to be so bureaucracy or so money-minded.

    Thank you for your link
    It really inspire me again.

    The job i do is a system support engineer in a IT firm. At first, i think it is a meaningful and exciting job. As i can use my technical skill to help others to resolve thier problem. It feel so good that can solve others problem. Also, the job need to answer the service calls, on-site trobleshooting or project implement. It seems exciting and can go many place and meet many people.

    But turn out, i find that the job is not so exciting as i think. Many details and document tasks. report this, report that. checkup this, checkup that.....In the first week, my job is to read the document and system manual. Wow, it make me nearly fall to sleep for several times!!

    The communication between people is strange. It need some level of political. The commication between people need to be "black and white" that mean i need to communicate with people in very serious, correct and precise. If speak or do something wrong. haha, a trouble day will coming. Actually, I don't like that kind of stressful enviroment or meet people in that way .....

    OK Johnny, thank you for ignoring my post. What's wrong with using your degree to travel the world to work as an IT consultant (sort of like SSmall seems to do.)

    You've got to work and may as well use your qualification, and use it to travel the world to boot. You're in a fortunate position many would I think in truth would envy.

    Thing with ENFp's is how they ignore Si practical advices. Shows how duals aren't always compatible as a snapshot I think.

    Yes. Of course, I love to travel over the world and see see new people.
    But my technical skill in IT is not so great. I always forget the command or program language. It is hard for me to be a IT consultant.

    Well, you have the degree. If your technical skills let you down then improve them within your capacity. Thing about IT is there are a lot of people with poor people skills, and these are actually needed in the real world when interacting not just with collegues but with clients. I think if you looked into it you could find a reasonably comfortably style of psychological living out of it. IT consultants esp have to get on and sell their company as much at least as provide technical supports. Nothing is ever perfect or a perfect match. You should look into this more. Speak to career advisors in the field. If you do though get into something else good luck. But why through away what you've studied so quickly? Why not try a job abroad, esp in an IT consultancy role. I think your ability to get on with others and negotiate such things should not go underated by you. And earn a reasonable living to satiate what perhaps you'd like to do overall.

    Eventually, after enough contacts etc, you could work for yourself in your own way.

    Hey Johnny, welcome. What Cyclops advised for you is not a bad idea. You seem to focus on your shortcomings which is understandable but my advice to you, knowing I went through it all, try focusing on your strengths.

    I am an IT consultant and I'm not that good at developing or other more detailed work (although I manage it fine when I'm focused). However that is not why I am an IT consultant. Trust me flexibility and communication skills are even more important. There is not that many people who actually can live in a pace like that, constant travels, uncertainty, constant adapting to places and people and tutoring and on top of that have IT knowledge. Most (not all of course) good IT specialist dread things like that, they are more interested in actual work and prefer to leave the human interaction to their managers or do it without much joy.

    So you have things to offer which are not that abundant in IT area, consulting in general, I think, fits ENFp's very well.

    Oh, I make up a idea la ~

    I decise to be a computer teacher so that the IT knowledge in U can be recycle. And my target is to make a change to traditional education in HK. Add the creative element to the Traditional Mcdonald-Type classroom learning like, plug in the new module:
    - interactive brainstorm
    - role-play workshop
    - case study
    - creative IT product design.
    - outing trip,
    - competition
    ......
    So, it would be fun and creative in classroom learning la ~

    Also, in order to solve the problem of "ENFP teacher is fun but teach std nothing (practical) ". Easy la, Just step back to traditional ISTJ-teaching like MSCE training workshop. Every std look at their lab sheet. U do U and I do I. Just look at PC to do everything. haha super practical and be sure that std can learning sth !!!

    I am an INFj and have this same problem. I don't do well with tons of details and routine, monotonous processes. I can do it if I have to, but i end up getting depressed and burned out. I am also hoping to find a new job, but it seems like it's sometimes hard for intuitive/feeling types to fit into the corporate world.

    Maybe you should consider becoming an entrepreuneuer and starting your own business? It seems to me that ENFp's would make good entrepreuneurs because of their creativity, adaptability, and willingness to take risks. Plus, that way you could be your own boss and wouldn't have to work under anyone else's rules.

    Yeah, It is not a easy task for our "dream person" (N) to stick at reaily (S) too long.

    But for the short term, the quick solution is to stick to the reaily, and buildup our own ability (like the B.skill, Network...) for pursuit of independent/ Freedom. So that in the long term, we will have a job/ life with big amount of FREE-control of time, space, and resource.

    Haha, i don't think ENFP would be a gd entrepreuneurs anyway.
    As there company would be mess up or not practical at all under their leading....

    I think ENFp's would make great entrepreuneurs. They just need to hire some ST's to manage the practical side of things!

    Default My ENFp Lecturer

    He is a lecturer for my counseling and psychotherapy class. Throughout the unit he has been very engaging and enthusiastic. The topic was very interesting as he always had really insightful comments and stories. He is very educated, and has worked all around the world. The lectuers would explore the history of the people he taught about and how their lives influenced their theories. For example he talked about Victor Frankl, an Austrian who survived the concentration camps. Through the suffering Frankl endured, he realized that the one freedom people cannot take is the freedom of the mind. "It was due to his and others' suffering in these camps that he came to his hallmark conclusion that even in the most absurd, painful and dehumanized situation, life has potential meaning and that therefore even suffering is meaningful.".

    Anyway it was just the last class and one woman said that he always goes that little bit extra and connects things really well. Everyone nodded and agreed. He said that he has some life experience because he is 58. What the hell i thought he was only about 40 he looked so young. At the very end he launched into this short inspirational speech and it was so uplifting i had shivers.

    I don't know why im saying all this but i hope i can be like him one day. What a legend.

    I used to be a writer and liked it ok. However, it was too much time spent alone. I liked meetings, brainstorming sessions, etc., but those would usually only happen once a week or so. The rest of the week I'd be isolated in a little office and would go nuts trying to think of new things w/o a lot of people interaction.

    Journalism can be fun, and I think lots of ENFps would like to be on TV, but it doesn't pay well and is a lot of work/not much free time.

    I think anything having to do with psychology is really fun. However, I know a girl who is one and spends her days dodging pencils her psychotic clients throw at her, and one guy took off all his clothes and ran down the hallway. I would not like that. I prefer more or less healthy people.

    But if you think about it, ENFps are all about creating new possibilities and building relationships. So that could be a lot of things. Business, entrepreneurship, etc.
    Hi! I'm an ENFP. :-)
