Science falling victim to 'crisis of narcissism'

The "but I don't think they're all narcissists!" at the end is not a very convincing rebuttal. It mostly just seems like a glimmer of hope that not literally all scientists are narcissists, which is good because everyone needs science in their life. Science does tend to attract many narcissists, especially trendy fields, but I think it's possibly even more telling that postmodernist philosophers, politicians, and others ape science out of narcissism, which is the well-known "science envy."

''individuals with high numbers of autism traits showed less evidence of internet addiction if they also displayed high levels of anxiety. It is suggested that the presence of anxiety in these individuals alters the function that internet behavior serves, and makes internet addiction less likely.''

Damn, things were so much easier in the days of Dickens.

I know a female ESI who is married to a male ILI, and both are from India but are living in the States. Apparently, they live with his aging mother, who rules the household with an iron fist. I doubt if this arrangement would be easy for an ESI to deal with. She's already dealing with the ILI.

Sometimes, just the threat of being kicked out will moderate a person's behavior. You can't always count on people operating from the goodness of their hearts.

in your example, the mother is supposedly counting on the couple's goodness? could it be that they are just used to this kind of restriction and everyone may get what they need in this arrangement?

No, not exactly, The daughter-in-law is counting on the mother-in-law to not be too domineering, since the mother-in-law holds all the power. The mother-in-law rules the home, not the ESI. The ESI just lives and works there for her husband, but isn't "in charge" of the house.

I don't know how well this works in their case.

    So surprising!

"What researchers discovered was surprising: Those who are described as "agreeable, conscientious personalities" are more likely to follow orders and deliver electric shocks that they believe can harm innocent people, while "more contrarian, less agreeable personalities" are more likely to refuse to hurt others.

The study also found that people holding left-wing political views were less willing to hurt others. One particular group held steady and refused destructive orders: "women who had previously participated in rebellious political activism such as strikes or occupying a factory.""

The decisive thing is not the reality of the object, but the reality of the subjective factor, i.e. the primordial images, which in their totality represent a psychic mirror-world. It is a mirror, however, with the peculiar capacity of representing the present contents of consciousness not in their known and customary form but in a certain sense sub specie aeternitatis, somewhat as a million-year old consciousness might see them.

IF YOU BURN A CHURCH, YOU’VE LEARNED NOTHING FROM BLACK METAL

While I don't know anyone who burns churches or is planning on it, this was a pretty hilarious article and also did a good job tying real news that only serious people pay attention to into obscure-ish metal.

But to blame black metal’s history for this would be foolhardy for one specific reason: the whole point of Norwegian black metal’s story is that the movement was taken too far. At the end, all of the heroes died, went to jail, or became racist folk artists.
The beauty of the second wave of black metal is that it came from somewhere deep, dark, and oppressively normal. It’s the sound of young people yearning for an uncomplicated world where they could be pure and extreme and powerful, and their lament that they would never reach it. That, coupled with the fact that the second wave was made up of isolated young dudes totally unequipped to express their emotions, resulted in all of the drama and violence within the scene. Burning a thousand-year-old church was these metalheads’ way of showing the world they could change it forever, and making it known how little their souls meant to them.
