Default USA is an oligarchy, democracy is rigged

United States of Ameria is an oligarchy. This is based on a study that I've been sharing every now and then.

Esteemed researchers Martin Gillens and Benjamin Page at Princeton University took 1779 policy issues, found out what the richest 1,1% thought about them, what special business-interest groups thought about them, what the average voter thought about them and what mass-based organization thought about them. Then they looked at what bills passed and which didn't.

They found "that Economic elites and organized groups representing business interests have substantial independent impacts on U.S. government policy, while average citizens and mass-based interest groups have little or no independent influence."

This means that it is a fact that your opinion as a voter doesn't matter.
If you're going to try to educate yourself on politics to better your vote, you are wasting your time. Get over it.

The side you helped may win the election but it wasn't on your side.

The study confirms what many democracy critics have known for a while: Organized greed almost always wins disorganized public interest:

    What now?

Whether democrat or republican, it's a choice between two competing elites.

Who both work for the rich. Which is, of course, not a homogenous group.

The U.S. is a mishmash of things. In some ways, currently, a big-biz / one-percent oligarchy as OP describes.

In some ways, a fucked-up democracy, such as in states where voters can create and pass whatever (possibly bizarre) legislation they wish, and maybe it will be challenged, maybe not.

In other ways, it's a monarchy--i.e., that's how the Supreme Court functions.

    Imo.

Yet more reason for me to not give a shit about American politics. With the 24-hour news outlets spewing out the same irrelevant stories about the same ten people at any given time, American govt. gets to feeling more like celebrity gossip than anything that has relevant impact on my livelihood. It's like the intricate back story to a TV drama that I've never seen and don't care about. They might as well replace CNN with a 24-hour Game of Thrones analysis channel and I'd learn just as much.
