What do these signs mean—, etc.? Why cannot socionists use symbols Ne, Ni etc. as in MBTI? Just because they have somewhat different meaning. Socionics and MBTI, each in its own way, have slightly modified the original Jung's description of his 8 psychological types. For this reason,
Just one example: in MBTI, Se (extraverted sensing) is associated with life pleasures, excitement etc. By contrast, the socionic function(extraverted sensing) is first and foremost associated with control and expansion of personal space (which sometimes can manifest in excessive aagression, but often also manifests in a capability of managing lots of people and things).
For this reason, we consider comparison between MBTI types and socionic types by functions to be rather useless than useful.

A couple years ago I was put in charge of decorating the college for Valentine's Day. I made some gorgeous, fancy decorations from construction paper, glue, scissors, and imagination. Then I covered a couple cabinets with them. But my favorite was the diagram of a human heart I put up. So romantic!
I got Ted at ENTp(/INFp), and Barney at a highly caricatured ESTp(could be Ti subtype). Ted's type is uncertain cause of the +/- thing I keep talking about.

To me Barney is ESFj, Marshal ISFp, Lily ISFp, Ted INFj, Robin - maybe ENTj? I haven't seen much of show so I'm just playing a little bit with typings and basing them on some gut feeling I have.
Nah Barney's definitely ESTp. He's so transparent, you can point out the manifestations of Ego Ti in almost every episode.

idk he's not really as direct as i expect ESTps to be. he's a lot more deliberate and conscious. he plans extensively before jumping into new situations, tries on elaborate alternate personas to score chicks, always has a back-up plan and consults the bro code frequently. he's always dressed in suits! lol. that sort of meticulousness strikes me as more alpha > beta. for comparison, see joey from friends who is an obvious ESTp imo.And you still didn't explain why SLE doesn't fit for barney

As far as typing them... I just don't see their characters as being realistic enough to type. Yes, Barney's got a focus on Ti, but he's too neurotic to type, truly. Robin's a MUCH better candidate for SLE than Barney. Marshall and Lily could possibly be identicals with her being more intelligent, but... he's a lawyer??? Really? What about his behavior indicates that he would be able to study and practice law all day and remain sane? Those two are great characters though. And Ted's just a piece of shit as previously mentioned.

I like the Friends typings. I'm okay-ish (I still think they're too "fictional" to really have types) with the typings of the HIMYM characters with the exception of Robin. I see ST for her all the way. And while I can see an extreme focus on Se and Ti from Barney, I don't see him as an SLE. LSI is less troublesome, but it more seems like he's just too psycho to type.
