American Pie is ALL about Beta: the crude humor is Se, the group inclusion (even the people they don't really like, ie Stiffler) is Aristocracy with Fe, and social awkwardness is totally Fe.

Just wondering.. why do you say social awkwardness is totally Fe? It actually makes sense to me.. but how come Fi people aren't as prone to this?

Well, Fe is not just about being graceful in social situations; that comes with time for any type, although types with strong Fe certainly seem to come by it more easily. The biggest part of Fe is being aware of the nature of a social situation, how the mood is changing, etc, so Fe-valuing types are more likely to note awkwardness than others. Also, awkwardness is gauged by the degree with which it is in opposition or deviation from social norms, which are governed by Fe.

Perfect example: Larry David, IMO an obvious Alpha NT (probably ILE), has two shows about social awkwardness: Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm. ILEs are notorious for not only noticing social awkwardness, but actually causing it, which Larry tries to make light of in himself and the people around him in his shows.

Curb Your Enthusiasm: totally hilarious anti-Fi humor; the show makes me tense, though.

I don't think so. Beta groups, if anything, are more exclusive, even cliquey. Hierarchy is better respected and the group is united by beliefs that separate them from world, thus offering more of an "us vs. them" mentality. Delta groups are the ones about "inclusiveness". I think you misinterpreted some quadra profile, what it meant was that WITHIN the group all members are encouraged to participate, not that anyone is allowed in the group. In Beta groups if someone is disliked they are not "put up" with, rather they are seen as unworthy of the group, a threat to its image and thus a threat to the image of everyone within the group, and thus they are kicked out/disposed of immediately! inner-group trust is important.

Crude humour and social awkwardness are not quadra values,

I thought for a while Leonidas and Queen Gorgo were a good ESI-LIE couple (respectively), especially Fi and Se values for their intensity together, but the whole honor culture thing has got to be Beta. During the scene in which the 300 are leaving for war, when the king and queen are speaking alone, she tells him to "come back with [his] shield, or on it," ie, with honor, whether dead or alive. She totally neglects their relationship (Fi) in favor of the concept of honor (Ti) as a way of expressing her real passion for him (Fe) and what he stands for (Aristocracy). Also, when the Senator forces her to have sex with him, she is forsaking her duty as a faithful wife to Leonidas (Fi) in order to get the result (Se): the support for her husband. This is classic Beta ends-mean behavior.

I'd say an LSI identical couple is probably more appropriate for them.

    Some Beta quotes from 300:

Queen Gorgo: "Because only Spartan women give birth to real men".

King Leonidas: "Submission? Well that's gonna be a bit of a problem. See, rumor has it that the Athenians have already refused you, and if those philosophers and boy-lovers have found that kind of nerve... " "and of course Spartans have their reputations to consider."

Dilios: "We Spartans have descended from Hercules himself. Taught never to retreat, never to surrender. Taught that death in the battlefield is the greatest glory he could achieve in his life. Spartans: the finest soldiers the world has ever known."

Dilios: "Yet they stare now across the plain at 10,000 Spartans commanding 30,000 free Greeks! Ho! The enemy outnumber us a paltry three to one! Good odds for any Greek. This day we rescue a world from mysticism and tyranny, and usher in a future brighter than anything we could imagine."

FWIW, I saw it in London with my ESFj girlfriend. I liked it, she hated it. It was one of the few films we saw together that she actively disliked. Perhaps a point for Gamma Ni.

The 2004 version is more Beta, I agree. Shaun of the Dead is Alpha.

By the way, the 1978 version includes good illustrations of Gamma-Beta and Gamma-Delta conflict.

The movie as a whole is Beta, although from the PoV of James Franco's character it is more Gamma.
