If anyone's the least bit intersted. I'm posting about this in the forum because there is a lack of information in English about this thing... I find information because I know how to search for it, because I see all that in Estonian.

"EU is under attack because Russia is attacking Estonia."

Europe News: Estonian minister to call for EU measures against Russia "attacks"
    • Paet also stated, that Estonia has proof on the fact that cyber assaults against Estonian governmental authorities have came from IP addresses of governmental authorities of Russia.
    • Estonia also possesses information how the employees of the Russian Embassy met with the organizers of mass disorders on last Thursday, before the vandalism started, in the Tallinn Botanic Garden.
    • According to Paet, the siege of the Estonian Embassy in Moscow is even more monstrous since the besiegers are on salary: 500-1000 roubles per “working” day.
    • The declaration of the delegates of State Duma visiting Estonia as if militia could end the blockade in three minutes if it wanted, was, according to Paet, most impudent.
    • The Russian TV-stations, “freedom” of which is well-known throughout the world, do not show the marauders tearing up the city and broadcast news as if Estonian police is killing people taken under custody and the Estonian military has received orders to shoot Russians. This is a most disgraceful lie, emphasized Paet.

“I assure you — we have all necessary evidence to prove these allegations”, said the Minister. Paet said that he plans to present the European Union a number of counter-sanctions to be applied. What these are exactly will be known after the Government sitting the day after tomorrow, where the propositions will be discussed. As one of the possible sanctions, Paet named the possibility of Estonia to make it hard for Russia to enter different contracts on the EU level. link

Just get the 'big three' (UK, France, Germany) interested, and whatever you want will happen.

Germany (Angela Merkel) is having friendly talks with Putin on the phone and told Estonia "to be reasonable".
UK has burned all foreign maps except for the Iraq and Iran maps.
Mhh... I bet we could sell blonde Estonian chicks to the French to get them to support us.

Well, at the end of the day, it boils down to this:

    - nobody in the EU gives the slightest damn about that stupid monument, so it's more like, "who cares, why create a crisis because of that"
    - Estonia sees it as a matter of principle - it's none of Russia's business if they want to move that stupid monument
    - Russia/Putin acts in a very - sorry - Beta Fe kind of way, mobilizing Russian's emotions to show how he's always defending Russian interests/honor/whatever
    - Russia is probably never going to invade Estonia, so they go for "dirty tricks" tactics to harass Estonia

Estonia is a member of EU. And of course it is not any of Russia's business to tell our government to resign.

In Finnish news it says that EU is about to send a delegation to Russia. It said that EU is worried about the protests around the embassy in Moscow.
    http://www.yle.fi/uutiset/kotimaa/vasen/id59234.html

It also says that the Finnish Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen severely critizices the Russian parliament for saying that the Estonian government should resign.

I dunno if you can do some machine translation about those links in case you are interested.

Thanks for the links. Oh, and I speak Finnish (to some extent), so I won't have a problem reading the articles. Nuances of words will probably be lost for me, because I learned the language when I watched YLE1, YLE2 when I was a kid and later also MTV3 and Nelonen. Too bad we don't get Nelonen here.

Oh, I see. It's probably something like here almost everyone speaks some Swedish. So when the Swedish come here they get service in their own language just like we just speak Finnish to everyone when we visit Estonia.

Agreed. If Putin were a president of the U.S. he'd be dead by now.

If he weren't so busy assassinating his political opponents, he probably already would be. One should never, ever elect a paleoconservative to a position of political leadership without having a strong parliamentary check on them in the form of a dominant opposition party. Otherwise they invariably turn to secrecy and subterfuge.

Look at Reagan and Nixon, no less. Paleoconservatism believes in the dominance of the genetically superior and thus is distrustful of democracy.

It seems this conflict is still escalating "underground".

What is interesting is that in last few days Finland has apparently also been targeted.
